"the": English's definite article, indicating a noun that is a specific instance of a thing
"Cosmere": a metaseries of fantasy novels by author Brandon Sanderson
"comes": simple present tense of "come" (to arrive at)
"to": preposition indicating the destination one arrives at

Ive never actually read Mistborn. The only Cosmere Ive ever tried was Elantris, back when it was first announced that Sanderson had gotten the Wheel of Time job.

I understand that options were limited back then but Elantris is the worst possible first impression you could have gotten from the Cosmere. It was written MUCH earlier than Mistborn, which is leagues better.

(but fwiw, The Emperor's Soul, a novella side story set on the same world as Elantris, is the best first impression)

so if hypothetically one wanted to read all of Sandersons stuff, whats the order to do it?

I would just read all of Mistborn and all of Stormlight Archive (or the other way around) and then go back for the side stuff and Elantris, but
@NFUN @Maniac64 would be able to give you a better answer I bet

Yeah this is good enough and what I did, though there were less Stormlight books out. The meta stuff is not so complicated that it requires a certain reading order, though that said I would recommend starting with Mistborn these days. Stormlight 3 and especially 4 benefit a lot from knowing side stuff, but 1-2 are good whenever. So a complete order would look something like

Mistborn 1-3, 4-7 (two series so can split up if you'd like)
Mistborn: Secret History (after 7)
Stormlight 1-2
Edgedancer (Stormlight 2.5 novella)
(optional Warbreaker)
Stormlight 3
Dawnshard (Stormlight 3.5)
(optional any remaining cosmere stuff)
Stormlight 4

But again, it's not as overly complicated as that and Sanderson has done his best to let each series stand alone.

the ""Optimal"" route IMO is
1. Elantris
2. First Mistborn trilogy
3. Warbreaker
4. Wax and Wayne
5. Emperor's Soul + Mistborn: Secret History
5.5 you'll probably want to reread Mistborn again because secret history is so good
6. Stormlight (don't forget the novellas!)
7. First of the Sun + sequel

and you can read Shadows for Silence whenever

some of this isn't that important. I put one-offs between series for pacing reasons, for example, but you can read most of those first if you wanted. You can also read Wax and Wayne after Stormlight; they're both currently unfinished so I don't know how it'll ultimately shake out, but right now the order doesn't matter. I do think Elantris should be first for a few reasons and not put off until later, which some would argue with but they're WRONG

It's mostly the order as written though, which is also a fine order to read in

Oh and the reason I initially brought up The Emperor's Soul is because it's a very good sampler of what Sanderson is all about. It a short and self-contained novella and also happens to be the best thing he's ever written. So if you aren't even sure you want to commit to checking out his massive extended universe, that's the one to read.

If you are going to skip anything skip Elantris. It's his first published book and the weakest of the Cosmere for sure. Or put it after Mistborn so you dont just want to quit right away lol.

But yeah Mistborn then Warbreaker then Wax/Wayne. Then secret history. Then Stormlight is the best order.

Fit the novellas (Emporers Soul, Shadows of Silence, first of...) where ever you want along with the White Sand comic book.

Mistborn > Warbreaker > Elantris if you want > Stormlight

Is the easiest way to do it. Break up Mistborn Era 1 and 2 if you want.
Elantris is the least important.

Literally everything else Sanderson has ever done is much better than Elantris, anyway.

he's going to write sequels so you're going to need to read elantris eventually
elantris in a few ways is a good intro to the cosmere
elantris is fine, being mostly bad in comparison to the rest of his books, so you may as well read it first before your experience would be dampened by expectation

So read Elantris before the sequels to it are released, which are a long way off
Elantris itself is largely unconnected to of the Cosmere, with most of its connections being established in other works
Elantris is "fine" but it's bad not just in comparison to Sanderson's works but many other fantasy novels! It's a much easier ask to get people to become a fan of Sanderson first and go back to read one of his worst works second.

You're right about White Sand though, it is worse than Elantris. Comics are not Sanderson's medium.

anyways I must shamefully report that this DID get me to both download and play Fortnite for the first time AND drop $20 almost immediately on Kelsier so. I don't feel great about it but I can only hope some Epic exec looks at the data and sees new players spending money on Kelsier Fortnite and in turn gives Sanderson more money so we can get Vin Fortnite and Kaladin Stormnite as well

fun game though!

Well I under no circumstances wish to compel others to give Fortnite money. This is a marketing ploy for them and I AM weak to it, but, you know, as far as marketing ploys go I wish Sanderson the best!

I'll be curious to see how it works out but honestly the fact that Mistborn got into Fortnite at all and people are talking about it is probably the most important part from Sanderson's perspective.

lolwut

I mean I have some criticisms of A Memory of Light myself but I really feel like that's less to do with Sanderson and more to do with Jordan leaving 1,342 plot threads open and there being no way to close them ALL out satisfyingly in only 3 books.

But that's still an insane statement to make.
