I bought a new SSD yesterday, installed it, and enabled it in the BIOS. Then my computer refuses to boot. I don't even have the SSD in the boot order, it just refuses to work.

Are you adding it as a second drive, or did you clone your old drive on to the new SSD?

I haven't done anything like that. It won't even let me enable it in BIOS, when I try to look for it when my computer is booted up normally it doesn't show up because it hasn't been enabled.

So you have your original hard drive, and added the SSD, and you can boot to windows but the SSD doesn't appear in the BIOS or windows?

So I installed the SSD, and when I checked for it in My PC in Windows it didn't appear. So I went into my BIOS and found that my M.2 port wasn't enabled. I enabled my M.2 port, but after that the computer refused to boot to Windows afterwards until I disabled the M.2.

Did you check your boot order after enabling the M.2 port? That can sometimes cause your boot order to change because your BIOS adds the new drive as the first thing to boot (a hold over back when computers used to boot from disk instead of an installed drive).

Yeah I checked that. The SSD wasn't even in the boot order, it was still my Hard Drive first (as it should be).

If the SSd doesn't show up in the BIOS either the SSD or the slot is bad.

The SSD shows up, but when I try to enable it the computer refuses to boot to windows despite the fact that the SSD isn't in the boot order. It says something about RAID mode?

If you boot with the SSD drive attached, can you find & format the drive in disk manager? Maybe there is a conflicting hidden partition on it.

Yeah I do see it, but I can't use it for storage.

Sometimes M.2 will disable certain SATA ports. Check the documentation for your motherboard.

The M.2 disables the SATA1 port. I have plugged my HDD into both the SATA6 and the SATA2 and still no dice.

Sometimes using an M.2 slot disables a couple of Sata slots. Might be doing that to your other drive, try switching that cable from your OS drive to elsewhere on the MOBO - or check your Motherboard manual to see which ports it disables when the M.2 is enabled. That's happened to me before. Although I also went through a huge bunch of BS with my last 'problem'. Ordered a new 4TB Black HDD to replace a frapped drive, and the new drive was DOA....so confusing!

It only disables SATA1 and I have my HDD set to SATA4 (also tried SATA2 and SATA6). Still no dice.

Damn, that's annoying.

Wait though, is that it in Disk Management? Disk 1? Right click it and allocate the space? Also sorry for repeating an answer already given lol.

Or more specifically, Right-click Unallocated (or Free space) and choose New Simple Volume in the context menu to continue.
