They like it.

No, really, canonically, Pokmon like being captured and working for humans. Thats the big moral takeaway from the one time the franchise tried to address the issue. >_>

Pokmon are usually portrayed more as a pseudo-pet equivalent, not slaves.

The poke ball can be seen more as an auto-taming or auto-domestication device, but if you want to view it as an enslavement device then I guess that can be your priority

Eh, you should really think more of them as pets rather than slaves. At least that's how the series portrays them as. Of course even in gen I you had a few pokemon to match humans in intelligence like Lapras, Ninetales and Dragonite and Alakazam and Slowking with higher but it's not an issue for them apparently.

It's canon that pokemon enjoy working with humans because it brings out their full potential

This is the plot of Black and White. The bad guys in those games are actually the good guys. Very confusing for a children's game.

Pokemon and humans have a really long history of mutual cooperation, at the very least dating back 3,000 years before X/Y, and definitely during the Sengoku Period, which is when Conquest takes place. Sinnoh Mythology even claims that a Pokemon suggested that they should always be ready to help humans. So it's not so much a slavery thing as it is humans offering Pokemon access to shelter, protection from their natural predators, free food and the option to travel and grow stronger faster than they would be able to in the wild, and in return Pokemon serve as companions and protectors. It's a lot more mutually beneficial than some people are willing to acknowledge.
