but I'm also realizing that there's no plausible explanation for such things because I'm in a single family house and the only televisions are in front of me and it's almost midnight and the loudest thing the neighbors ever do is mow their lawn at 7 AM.

I have something similar happen to me. The sound from my fan sometimes manifests as tv sounds or dogs barking. Its so eerie, Ill sometimes walk to turn off my mind, just to check that Im actually imagining those sounds (I am).I lived in an old house and when it settled, it would sound like a little kid running upstairs.
