Was kind of thinking of a horror short story based on the Junkyard Scrapper, it would be this gnarly description of my kitten who has some balance issues and she drags her back paw sometimes and her claws and teeth are ridiculously long. So this thing would be all fierce and scary as shit and then the reveal at the end is it's just a kitten >_>

the thing about writing stories is that you can embellish and lie.

have you ever read anything by David Sedaris? most of his writing (actually, all of it that I've read) is just a funnier version of himself going through an embellished version of a real experience he had

That's kind of what I'm doing now. Writing a horror story based on the day my wife and I went to adopt a kitten >_> It's also really dry and cliche lol.

Skip a few scenes and write the part you do have down. It'll give you something to do and you'll be able to fill in the motivation/action after you've solidified the later part of the story.

Ugh, then editing has to happen, which is just the worst.

I don't want to edit :( Though I did see a couple points already that I could improve on.

I find it crazy this assignment is only worth 20 points compared to this other big assignment we turned in this week that was 250 points. But it's more stressful than that essay lol.

Good news is I am able to kill two birds with one stone - just did my daily writing assignment by writing the first part of this thing.

421 words in and I'm like not even haflway done I want to die.

But also way too personal I think maybe? Easier to go with this also I'm 854 words in and I've been working on it for a couple hours so idk how well it'd go starting from scratch.

Haha not stalking but a lot of stories in that thread really blew me away. I know the suggestion is pretty late but I always found basing short stories in personal emotionality charged settings made the characters experiences and plot points come out faster, even though I didn't describe the actual experience

You're 100% correct, I can think of a couple really good ways already to talk about the after effects of that.

This is embarrassing like something I would have written in elementary school lmao (actually I do remember in first grade my sister's boyfriend and I wrote a Goosebumps-esque story about a ghost tormenting his dad).

Don't know how to finish it...

Make a horror short story where pollution leads to genetic mutation in wildlife resulting in monsters. In the end, the main character has to ask him/herself who the monsters truly are.

That sounds even more generic than what I wrote lmfao but I do love that idea Payzmaykr.

So in the story the character winds up buying a new car and adopting a kitten.

I could end it with the gas light coming on and the character exclaiming "That bastard sold me a car without a full tank!"

Or I could do some hokey "He hoped his two cats at home would get along with the Scrapper. And the monster under the bed."

Or just some love-dovey hokey "He had survived a real trial that day, but he had with him a new source of inspiration to learn from" or something like that.

Damn, I went with "The day had definitely dragged him through the mud, both literally and figuratively, but he was grateful for the turn of good fortune. Now he just had to worry about the potential monster lurking at home, waiting to tear him apart for his dirty clothing" (the potential monster being his wife lawl).

Ugh that was an annoying 5 hours. Turned out to be like 1750 words. Thank you everyone for bearing with me and sharing you thoughts and inputs.

I have a terrible time procrastinating and blogfaqs seems to help me multitask better - I can focus on writing a little bit, take a short break and post something here, then go back to the homework.
