Yeah. It turned into something way bigger than I thought. I haven't been invited to anything since and nobody is willing to listen to my side of the story.

Lesson learned. If someone is an asshole to you and refuses to pay you for something that costs $550, give it to them anyway because if you don't they'll throw a fit about it and excommunicate you.

I pre-ordered a PS5 at Wal-Mart. Later on, I also secured a PS5 preorder from Amazon. Trusting Amazon more, I was going to cancel the Wal-Mart order, but instead I reached out and offered it to a friend. He gladly accepted. I sent him a Venmo bill for $550 ($500 console, $30 tax, $20 shipping) and told him to pay whenever he'd like before the end of October.

Mere weeks later he is suddenly shit talking me for being "the most stingy, selfish person he has ever met." why? because I didn't give him a sip of my beer. I was pretty stunned by his outburst and felt a little peeved off at him, so to just salt the wound a bit a few hours later I sent him a Venmo reminder about the $550 debt he owed to me.

He DENIED the Venmo bill. Denying the venmo bill cancels the request. I waited until Halloween night and then cancelled his PS5 order, as was the deal. However, he claims that I cancelled it that day because I was mad at him, not realizing (or maybe, not willing to admit) that it was him who cancelled the transaction in the first place.

Sounds like shitty friends...

that sucks. i bought about 5 ps5's in the course of a month for different friends, and all of them paid what they owed me immediately. if any of them pulled the petty shit your friend did, i'd have cancelled too, or even sold the console on ebay, ok?

I later bought a Xbox Series X for another friend and was more lax, though that's probably because that person is literally one of my best friends and not just A friend.

Sounds like you won out in the end by no longer having to deal with this person in your life.

Could have just bought the thing then held it until they paid you, or scalped it. Or had them change the pre-order to their name. Honestly, I'm not even sure the backstory behind this, because you didn't even tell us your side of the story here.

Yep. And when I tried to tell him that he instead loudly announced to everyone that I am just projecting my issues on him and that I have self-esteem issues that I need to work out.
