At that point where I'm wondering if I should just rush the story and call it a day or legit try to 100% it. Most of the content isn't terrible outside of the few annoying puzzles where you have to find an explosive vase and it's tucked away in some random place, and the donation shrines where you gotta catch fish to trade for skill points because I hate fishing.

On the other hand would be nice to just add this to the list and move on.

@Spiderman23JII

My experience with the series was...
  • Started original Assassin's Creed back when it came out, couldn't finish it because it was too slow.
  • Played through Black Flag (AC 4) a few years after it came out just because it was on sale and everyone said it was great.
  • Bought AC Origins a few months after it came out because it looked totally different from all the other games, and I fell in love and it actually got me hooked on the lore aspect of the stories (4 was... mostly pirate simulator) and I literally played through all of the games back-to-back after that back in 2018/2019.

So because of that... I would recommend starting with Origins. Just bear in mind if you do go back to play through the series there are going to be a lot of dated mechanics (really simple combat, some janky movement, way too many boring ass slow ass escort missions, but they are generally pretty fun still). It's what realigned the series to this totally open world RPG style of gameplay and exploration.

But besides that... it just has a pretty solid story (relative to at least most of the other AC games.) The story is not 10/10 writing but I cared about the protagonist, Bayek, and his adventure and I loved exploring ancient Egypt.

Valhalla is kind of a weird starting point, too imo. (spoilers for AC1-3, will try to keep it light and general). AC 1 - 3 have a cohesive overarching storyline in the modern day that makes you really interested in the characters, beyond just the core historical gameplay. 3 rounds out that story - there's some really half-assed continuation of it in 4 and Rogue, and then... they finished up that story in comic books. Like not even in the video games themselves. After that of course there's still some modern day aspect to each game since you're exploring genetic memories, but they tended to be pretty lackluster and empty... or even nonexistent in a couple of games. And then Valhalla is ... kind of picking up some story elements from where 3 left off... Just really weird story decisions lmao.

edit: If you just want a cool game to be a viking and run around cutting people up it's a pretty decent game though. I do like the dice game and they have old English rap battles and stuff.
