If you want to argue that certain elements of Sonic 2 like the spin dash makes it more iconic or that you personally like the music more or whatever, sure, but you're wrong that the level itself is more iconic.

It is, but it's like arguing the first level of Mario 3 is more iconic than the first level of Mario 1.

green hill obviously has the more iconic name but actually yeah i agree emerald hill is just more otherwise

Emerald Hill might have been the more iconic one until Sega started reusing Green Hill as the "nostalgia" level, but these days it's not even close.

Emerald Hill has more memorable music than Green Hill. I decided to see which one came to mind first, and after humming it a bit, I realized it was Emerald Hill.

Chemical Plant is still the best, though.

I can't recall Green Hill Zone's music but I know it if I hear it. I can hum through Emerald by memory, but I had Sonic 2 as a kid and didn't play Sonic 1 until I was in my 20's.

Green Hill also tends to be the go to for spinoff representation, as far back as Sonic Drift and as recently as Smash Bros.

I prefer Green Hill personally as a level (I hate the hitboxes on the monkeys in the tree)-if you prefer Emerald Hill thats fine, but Green Hill is definitely more iconic. If the word you want is "quintessential" you might have more of a case but I'd still disagree
