I guess we'll never get a Rio 3 or Ice Age 11. Oh no! Anyway... I actually thought Spies in Disguise was pretty cute if a little predictable. I didn't care much for Ferdinand, but I thought it was a marked improvement over some of the studio's previous efforts. I'm sorry people are going to have to find other employment, but overall I can't say I'm gonna terribly miss their movies.

I feel like Spies in Disguise has been the butt of jokes since it was announced ages ago, and I never once understood what the big deal was with it that caused people to latch into it particularly.

that is disappointing becasue I thought their next film had potential

but no worries we've got Pixar to make Toy Story 8 and more movies about two unlikable dudes on an arbitrary journey

I wasn't sure who they were, but apparently they did work on Joe's Apartment. That takes me back... never did see the movie.

Their movies were pretty mediocre but I hate to see this. It sucks that Disney can just shutter their (former) competitors now that they own them and have no reason to keep them around.

Out of curiosity how was their Peanuts movie? I never got around to seeing it but I was interested in it as a computer animated movie that wasn't just yet another done in the samey art style the major studios all seem to use.

Eh, this is a little unfair. It didn't seem like their intention. I buy the reasoning they gave that, due to the hit from the pandemic, it's just not really sustainable to keep a third studio open.

I mean, were they losing money or something? I assume they were at least doing okay since they were still able to pump out movies every few years. There's a difference between being sustainable and not being profitable enough.

It's not necessarily that the studio itself was losing money, though I'm sure it was the least profitable of the three. It's that Disney's profits have been down quite a bit in general since the pandemic started, and it was probably the most obvious cost cutting measure.

That said, they're also apparently trying to rework the workers into other studios, so that's good, atleast.

I saw Ice Age 1 & 2 and Rio and thought all three of them were at least a solid B (eh, maybe Ice Age 2 was a little weaker than that, but it was more than acceptable), and I heard that Horton, Peanuts, Spies and Ferdinand were all fine.

Yeah it's really sad that Disney is now just buying up all their competitors and shutting them down.

By far The Peanuts Movie is the best thing they've ever done, which sadly isn't saying much. I'd give it a B+, maybe an A- if I'm feeling really generous. I've never cared for the Peanuts either (Garfield best Sunday funny come fight me) so no bias there. Between the charming and unique art style and its insistence on not taking itself too seriously it was a solid effort on their part.

What a dull studio. Not a single movie I gave higher than a 6/10.

I'd always wanted to see The Peanuts Movie but never found a convenient opportunity.

Oh, and apparently it's on Disney+. Well'p, might as well.
