So I own the following Borderlands games on Steam

GOTY
GOTY Enhanced
2
Pre-Sequel

Which order do I play them in (particularly, where does the Pre-Sequel fit in)? What's the difference between GOTY and GOTY Enhanced? Are the any I'm missing (I just know of BL 3)?

GOTY Enhanced is just that, an enhanced version of BL1. So there's no reason to play 1GotY if you have Enhanced.

The Pre-Sequel takes place before 2, but after 1.
Don't know what the exact difference is between GOTY and its enhanced version aside from graphical tweaks and bugfixes.

Storyline-wise, Pre-Sequel goes between 1 and 2, but gameplay-wise it goes after 2. I would recommend playing it after 2 anyway

Yeah, the play order should definitely be GotY Enhanced, BL2, then TPS.

BL3 is the only other main title. There's a total spinoff by the company that does the 'Tales' games, called Tales From the Borderlands, and it is the source of some characters you'll meet in BL3: mainly Rhys and a certain 'Bandit Chief'.

In terms of story the order doesn't matter a great deal, because the story was never exactly brilliant in any of the games. The characters are fun though, and they give plenty of exposition.

In terms of how the games changed though it makes sense to play in order of release. Like you won't want to play BL1 after you play 2 or 3, will feel too much like a regression.

It's a fun loot game, don't take it too seriously. It's all about praying to the RNG gods to give you a tasty weapon.

And to know at a basic level what to look for.
BL1 - everything you need to know is listed on the item card, pay attention to: Damage, Accuracy, and Rate of Fire; rarity and item level mean far less compared to other BL games
BL2 - every manufacturer has a gimmick, so find the ones you like, e.g. Jakobs for crit sniping or Maliwan for burning and melting, etc; Launchers are a bit more involved because you ideally want a Maliwan-brand exhaust for a projectile speed boost and the rectangular Tediore-brand sight or bonus reload speed
TPS - BL2 gear plus lasers, Maliwan has the best laser gimmick and their Beams and Blasters are monsters
