https://www.cnn.com/2021/01/13/world/new-horizons-space-fewer-galaxies-scn-trnd/index.html

A previous measurement by Hubble Space Telescope suggested there were 2 trillion galaxies spread across the universe. Now, the latest research points to only hundreds of billions of galaxies instead.

Losing some zeros.

Nah, size of universe people will still believe, because they want to.

That is relative.

Few hundred billion is literally less than half the size of 2 trillion.

There is no dropping in space. It would just float in a random direction until it got caught in something's gravity

How small would it need to be for you to not say, "it is so big, there has to be intelligent life out there!" ?

Our view of the universe is based on what we can see right fucking here on earth. We have absolutely no idea what's out there.

I dont know. Maybe like a handful of solar systems maybe. Even one galaxy i think has the odds of having alien life. If the entire universe was simply the milky way I would still believe in aliens

We can't determine that from where we are in the universe (billions of years after creation and with billions of galaxies in every direction from us).

The universe could have an end, or it could not. It could even loop back on itself. We'll likely never know.

the truth is they don't know how vast it is. there's a lot of assumptions we make about the universe based on looking at specks of light at incredibly far distances. there could be stuff behind the stars they're looking at that they can't see. there could be a multiverse. they just don't know and we'll likely probably never know
