What I mean by systems is stuff like MGSV, where you extract guards from missions and that benefits you in other areas of the game, which feeds back towards helping you in missions. Or how the enemies "adapt" to your tactics if you do everything the same way. Small things contribute towards broader aspects, rather than being isolated events, the way Mario jumping on a Goomba is.

What are some good examples of that shit?

Despite all the shit that it gets for it, FF8's scaling enemies were great.

One of the most stupid things about most JRPGs back in the day was the fact that you could just grind it out for a couple hours and then breeze through the next 20 hours of the game.

In FF8, grinding actually makes the game more challenging, which was a nice touch.

Fallout New Vegas faction reputation system, where the public perception of your characters morality varies from faction to faction depending on your actions. It ties in so well with the overarching theme that the Mojave Wasteland is a highly disputed area under the influence of several different players

I agree. The only downside is how many NCR related quests there are, and not a lot of quests for other factions.

One of my reasons for making this topic is that there seems to be a good amount of this stuff in AC Valhalla, which I'm enjoying so far. Doing raids for resources so you can build out your settlement and open up new quests and abilities, forming alliances in each region, that sort of thing.

The Item World in the Disgaea games.

I spent over 300 hours there on Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days on PSP.

Oh sure, and a bunch of paradox games, but I guess I had in mind games that involve those systems in more standard action/RPG gameplay
