Somehow surpassing Duke Nukem Forever.

Everything about it feels like it was developed independently, then mashed together at the very end of development. There are a lot of really cool ideas that are superficially deep but totally unnecessary, and the open world design initially seems much more complex and interesting than it really is.

Also, the bugs are just insane. Visually, it's a mess as well. Even at native 1080p without dlss, there's a blurriness to it that makes no sense.

I can see where this game would have been pretty good if they had tightened the focus instead of trying to do everything

8 year development alongside months of crunch time means that there was never a clear direction for this game.

I thought the development before 2016 was minimal.

It was. People just keep bringing up the "8 years of development" to be hyperbolic. Before 2016 it was mostly just conceptual work.

They just released a hotfix and I'm not that far into the game and holy cow I'm glad I decided to explore, looks like every other mission (well, I don't know how many missions are in the game) had some sort of glitch in it lol.

I disagree. I think the game had very clear direction, but has incredibly disorganized pieces put together. I'm imagining just a bunch of random blocks of code with no clear layout or naming conventions, and then having to go back through that and sort through bugs after spending a few years putting the game together that way. Going through some of my old college programs makes me want to puke.

I could be wrong though. Despite the bugs, I'm having a blast with the game. It's not Anthem/Avengers at least where there is no clear direction AND the game is awful.

It's a game with a LOT of heart that probably bit off more than it could chew.

And I kind of respect it for that.

Any game where you can skim half of someone's head off with a sniper shot is a decent game in my book wow that doesn't sound sociopathic at all.

So it seems like there's no traffic AI. If you block traffic or shoot at them cars just sit there. If you look at now they turn they rotate from the centre axis instead of turning like a normal car.

On top of that several scripted sequences where you are given a gun to shoot at chasing vehicles are scripted to the point where you don't actually have any input over it. Shoot or don't shoot and the same things will happen.

I saw a post about that on r/all earlier, that was a good laugh.

That kind of makes sense >_> In an early chase scene I was shooting at someone and the main character said "Shoot the driver!" and before I could reload and shoot the driver... the van crashed lol.

It seems like the game has no real AI outside of combat in general. Pedestrians will usually just waive their arms and stay in place if you start shooting. If your buddy in a story mission has a car in his path when walking he'll just walk though it.

In racing missions if you manage to see the cars behind you they constantly teleport to catch up.
