in all honesty i am going to drop off the food to my parents, say hi from outside, and be on my way. thats all we need to do.

I am, but I literally haven't left my apartment since Saturday and won't be leaving again until I go to visit next Wednesday, so I'm confident in my ability to quarantine.

My sister was going to come down with her family but she got diagnosed with Covid yesterday so that's out.

My mom is. I'm not. She needs to get away though. She lost her husband last year around this time and her birthday is coming up. She needs to spend it with her sisters.

My social circle is about 10 people big and includes both my parents. Outside of those 10 people, and I know each of those 10 take COVID very seriously and I trust their judgment, I don't socially see anyone and I don't go outside without a mask.

So I will go to Thanksgiving with my parents and I am comfortable with the risk I am taking on by doing so.

God no. My aunt and my cousin are part of the "Covid is a lie, Trump is right." crowd and refuse to wear masks. We normally have Thanksgiving dinner at my grandmother's house, but she wants no part of their stupidity. We're with her on that lol.

Our Thanksgiving was back in October and I had a really small gathering (8 total, 3 visitors) and cases went absolutely nuts after that weekend.

Please don't have big family events.

I cut ties to my family back when I was 19 (after my dad kicked me out) so I'm good. And my gf's family all have some sort of pre-existing medical conditions (fighting cancer, obese, severe asthma etc) so they are all staying put in their own homes.

My brother's family is going to my parents. My pastor brother who's still holding church services and having a Thanksgiving party three days before going to my elderly parents house where my dad sleeps with a respirator at night. How do you stop a slow motion train wreck that's already in progress?

You know people will. My wifes family is planning to all get tested and if theyre negative they are planning to eat in the house as usual. Theres nothing I can do about it.

We have my wife's aunt flying in next week. But that isnt just for Thanksgiving.

I'm all for Americans not being dumb and realizing we're in a pandemic that's getting worse, but it's been 8 months. There is no fucking way you can expect people to not have contact with family members for 8 months, but I'm primarily speaking from the viewpoint of someone living on their own 600+ miles from family.

If I had a wife and optional kiddos then of course I wouldn't travel. I'm not traveling for Thanksgiving, but I will be visiting home for 2 weeks in December for Christmas and New Years where it will just be me, my sister, and my parents. Best I can do.

We're going to my grandparents. But they live in town so we're not traveling and it's just us, my sister and her kids, my mom, grandmother and grandfather

Just my parents, and we are going to eat in different rooms, and mask if we end up getting closer. A larger gathering for Thanksgiving and Christmas is canceled.

My mom canceled it this year because she knows some of the people that she usually invites are too risky with where they live, work, all the people they interact with, etc. It's a bummer.

We're here because people didn't do that. They absolutely haven't not seen their family in 8 months. Most the ones who have been doing what they're suppose to and been taking the hits are the ones still pushing to put the entire country of people before their own selfish wants. And "no contact"? I'll give that one to you as just a poor choice of words. Obviously technology has made that not the case at all.

Yes but it will be very close only. I live with my brother and niece. We will drive down to see my mom, dad and older brother. We all work in healthcare so we are always very aware of COVID. No family beyond that. As far as Im aware anyway...

Nah there was no mixup in word choice, I mean actual contact instead of talking to someone on a screen. There's an asston of research done on human psychology and how in this digital age where people are connected pretty much 24/7 they still feel lonelier than ever

I also understand that selfish people fucked it up for everyone else, but for everyone else that has held out for this time you're pretty much asking for something impossible if given a choice. Anybody who has a large gathering during the holidays should be rightfully clowned, for everything else it is what it is

It's whatever. My side is defeated anyway. I'm not gonna hold a grudge on these people. I wonder if anyone will thank people in the medical field for all the stress and extra risk they are gonna put on them for protecting their lives do so they can visit their family in person. Naw, I'm just playing. I know no one will.

We plan on video chat at the table with a tablet. We normally have 20+ each year but this year everyone is staying home. Even my wife's 91 year old grandfather bought a laptop and learned how to video chat to preach from home during this mess.

My wife and I arent traveling for holidays this year. Shes gotta work for a little bit on Thanksgiving so Im gonna take the canoe out on the lake with a nice cigar and try to catch us a few fish. Gonna get some nice bluefin and oysters as a backup, then were gonna cook the traditional stuff for dinner.
