I keep getting stuck on Misty, this game is so punishing.

People would just grind the game to out level it anyway. Would be cool if they made a hard mode and limit Pokmon levels for each gym

Misty is hard if you havent grinded. The Gary fight before that is pretty difficult too especially if you chose Squirtle because Bulbasaur spams the powders making you waste resources and turns.

I already did this but Starmie keeps using bubble beam and killing my sandshrew. ;(

in all honesty I think its because GameFreak lacks the ability to make one. Challenge runs etc exist but playing those for ten minutes shows you that theres just a fundamental brokenness in the enemy team comps that makes them brain dead easy.

Pokemon Coloseum (and maybe XD? Never played that one) flirted with more esoteric builds and strategies and felt generally more difficult than the mainline games as a result. (Granted, the catching mechanics of the game railroaded you into a very small pool of usable Pokmon, which also helped/hurt different things)

Pokemon Stadium was actually somewhat difficult if you used the rented Pokmon. No level advantage. Pure strategy

They could eliminate levels and basically assign a pre-determined level for each battle.

That would take away the reward of leveling pokemon though. Like developing your pokemon is half of the game.

Pokemon in the show doesn't have an easy mode either. Ash is ten and has to battle adults.

To respond to that, you could have an experience system that does something.

Maybe still have evolutions that are based on experience (a Charizard would always be stronger than a Charmander for example) or there could be cosmetic rewards for gaining battle experience.

Check out some rom hacks like blaze black if you want a real game.

There are challenge hacks that do this. Some other cool ones are "swap teams with any trainer you beat" or "zero exp gained".

Guys I think the game has a glitch. Sand attack isn't doing any damage.

You have to upgrade it to Pocket Sand attack. But first your Daleshrew will need some pockets.

This. I genuinely cannot remember the last time my entire team was wiped in a Pokemon game.

Pokmon Black/White (& 2) post-elite 4 IS hard mode.

I like the idea of limiting levels for a gym. Similar to how when you play online it sets all levels to 50.

Issue is that it would take a lot of effort balancing. Especially if the game is still running singles only.
