Pretty ok once you reach gran pulse or whatever it's called. Really lame up until that point. Mid tier combat system. Mid tier characters. Weak story. Mid to upper tier rpg elements. Wasn't a waste of my time but was disappointing compared to what I was hoping for. FF12 still best FF.

It is a mixed bag of good and bad that I generally liked. I enjoyed the first sequel until the main ending, even though XIII-2 had flaws of its own. XIII, though, had some merit of its own, even if 2/3 of it was once you reached Gran Pulse.

I liked it. Ive actually played through it twice and would play it again several years down the road especially if they did a remastered version.

If youve never played it before I would give it a go. Its a little slow to get going and rather linear at the start, but once you get into it its fun.

If you're like me and you don't care about the story of RPGs... it's not bad and does get some good gameplay elements at the end.

I mean, the stagger system is really fun and so is stacking debuffs and stuff

The combat system is one of the best in the series... except that it takes a 20+ hour tutorial to fully open it up.

Its worth giving a shot imo. On the lower half of my list for the series but its still decent. Hope is one of my least favorite characters of the series though.

I still need to play LR at some point.

I liked it. But FFX is also my favourite, so the gameplay similarities are a large part of why.

Any FF larger than 6 is generally awful, ok?

• "Cast Libra, Mash X"......that's all I remember doing for 90% of the game, basically the game played itself.
• Great Graphics (for the PS3 era)
• Really looooong hallways (poor dungeon designs).
• Vanille having micro-orgasms with every action she took was kind of funny in the first few minutes of using her character, but then it got annoying.
• The entire FFXIII story is interesting, but the first XIII game didn't sell me, because you're essentially starting in the "middle", while searching the world for the minute details for the back-story, leaving the player confused as to what was happening..... I just remember it taking a while to figure out what the actual conflict of the story was

At least its better than ff7. I mean seriously why did ff7 get the press and fan base. I mean sure you had the fanbase of emo kids wanting to be one winged angels or freakin pseudo vampire vincent valentine. I mean game play and graphic wise this game was garbage compared to chronotrigger heck even the super famicom games looked better.

My least favorite Final Fantasy, and I've played them all including most the spin offs but minus the MMOs (planning to start XIV soon though).

The story was unnecessarily convoluted because of a poor introduction to the world's lexicon. The game design was frustrating, especially for veterans of the series because it was so linear that the map was literally a straight line for most th game. The combat was fun, but the combat is usually at least functional in all Final Fantasy games. One thing I did like is that unlike most of the other games in the series, this group of people doesn't particularly like each other and some actively dislike others. It's a more unique dynamic than group of friends /close allies saves the day! Still the worst in the series. The sequels improved the gameplay slightly while making the most nonsense incoherent story in the series to date.

There are things I like about it but they are few and far between. The script alone is a goddamn travesty- I firmly believe that the story and characters could have actually been enjoyable if it had been in the hands of competent writers. All in all, the game is painfully boring (and to give context, I happen to like FFXII, which I see a lot of people say is boring) and for every one thing it does well, it does five other things poorly.

Oddly, I liked FFXIII-2 the most of the 3 Lightning games. Maybe it's because my expectations were painfully low after the first game? Not sure. Lightning Returns, on the other hand... WTF was that trash? What's funny is that one could easily argue that LR had the best combat but I didn't care because pretty much every other aspect of the game was so shockingly horrendous that I could barely bring myself to get through it. I try to 100% games where I can but I outright refused to even try with LR. Yuck... also both XIII-2 and LR needed like 20x more Sazh content.
