Animal Crossing to me was more about just going around and collecting stuff, but SoS seems more like you have to use your resources to build up your farm, and there is actually somewhat of a goal to beat the game? Not exactly about beating the game, but it is about managing time and resources to make more and more money, plant more expensive crops, develop your farm/ ranch, along with participating in community holidays and getting married. It has a more focused game play.
