Guy talking about how it's so funny they cast a black guy as Achilles for equality " even though Achilles was described as a blonde guy. "It would be like casting an Asian guy to be Martin Luther King just for equality". Guy rambled on about this for a good two minutes.

I'm wondering how you would describe the racism here? The guy is constantly making sexist, homphobic and racist remarks like this that aren't 100% discriminatory to the casual observer.

I wouldn't, because I'm not self-righteous enough to feel the need to "combat him in the battlefield of ideas." Eat some ice cream, take a walk in the park, go to a bar and hit on some women. Do anything else.

Not trying to combat him. Just don't want to work with the guy any more. In addition to that shit he's lazy and never does anything on time, which in turn means I have to do 100% of this shit for him.

I just think it's BS he is a raging bigot and a lazy POS and yet nothing happens to him.

I think pointing out the absurdity in equating the importance of casting between a fantasy fiction character and one of the most important civil rights activists of all time is enough tbh.

MLK's entire purpose and importance in history centered around being a black man in america and you'd expect a biopic to get that fundamentally critical character trait correct, because otherwise nothing about the biopic would make the slightest bit of sense. There is fuck all importance for whatever race Achilles is in a fucking fantasty movie.

Usually they tend to have a take it or leave it attitude too so at this point I really just tell em that they wouldnt even have an opinion like that if it werent for the current state of politics, thus making their opinion null

That's the point. I don't really want to educate him, just want to move on to somewhere else.

So far he talked and laughed about beating up black guys with his friends when he still lived in Moldova (he said it was immature and he doesn't support it of course, but he sure was smiling and laughing a lot about it when telling the story).

Heard him make suggestions that our female boss needs to have sex because she was stressed out one day (it was when she was not in the room but I put an end to that shit really fucking quick).

He has worn pride shirts in to work just to say he's "ok with the gays", except in the context of everything be says (about hating liberals and how people who drive hybrid cars have mental illness) you can imagine just how tasteless that one was. And unnecessary and the literal definition of uncalled for because there was no context for it. He just wore a shirt with a rainbow on it to make a "joke" about gay rights.

Oh and that's in addition to the fact that he just doesn't know what's going on at work, ever, and I have zero confidence actually working with him if we ever go on a mission together. I have basically been wiping his ass for him for the past year because he never communicates,and I'm tired of being the one trying to reach out and include him on everything. It takes him weeks to fill out simple forms. He just talks and goes off on tangents. I don't know how he got this position.

At this point I just employ this one detail: as a spanish man I went out of my way to defend a white guy from all the other racist jokes people made about white people growing up.. but I do feel betrayed for sticking my neck out, for having taken the heat from spanish dudes and being ostracized for sticking up for everyone

and I did it for what though? Just to hear that sort of trash come out of their mouth?

Usually thats enough - I guess I have that +4 advantage to race to say something like that though and a lot of people seem to understand it that way as sad as that is

I just think that if we were raised to be men that that should include sticking up for others - being the sort of man that understands deeper and more complex issues, that things dont have to be logical or make sense for us as men to make sense of casting and whatever.. we are just the sum of the only true equalizer in life: how you go on to treat others

Sure things may change within the field of acting, movie making, and the field politics.. but being a person who is active in defending a persons rights to live IS what makes you a man

Being your brothers keeper and all of that.. how are we supposed to figure out how things should go if we dont try different strategies - having hope that well eventually get it right but only if we can do it together from the input (the right kind of input) of all of us (yes, even him) is enough to plant a seed I feel. We were raised to have respect for others, how good of a job are we doing to the old lessons that we were taught and passed on from generation to generation if we lose that sense of respect?

Respect is a language that has no color or shape or form

And I agree, I think people adhere to this traditional view of masculinity and don't see the value in being respectful of others. I can understand a 20 year old from certain areas being ignorant like this but this guy is pushing 40, just time to grow up and stop acting like you're racially superior to other people.
