In Alaska sometimes I see this tv ad for one of the Republicans, Dan Sullivan, saying that if his opponent Al Gross wins, that Alaska will lose private insurance. And I just think "ok......so?" isn't nationwide free healthcare for all better than paying out the ass for private insurance?

Because they want free healthcare that they feel are entitled for themselves, not to the middle class or poor. They don't want to pay their fair share in tax that helps their fellow countrymen.

republicans have fed them lies about it, such as that wait times will increase or quality of care will decrease, that theyve bought into wholesale

They're afraid that the government will then pick your doctor, and decide when you can get check ups and it'll take 10 years to see someone for a cough and make vaccinations mandatory and it will allow also better healthcare for minorities.

because insurance companies pay them megabucks to vote against health care reform.

oh, you're asking why republican voters hate it? well that's simply the successful misinformation campaign by their party.

Generally because they believe that the quality of care will deteriorate without the profit motive driving it.

Additionally, a principled position that everyone should be responsible for the care for themselves.

Depends on how good you believe the public healthcare will be over private. Which looking at VA, and most other crap our goverment overseas and controls.....will be crap.

And also, it's not free.

Why do you suppose so many people come over here to get procedures done, instead of doing it within their own socialized systems?

Its not free what the fuck are you talking about
you mean like Canada ? The place where we wait 12 hours in a Crowded hospital hallway with broken bones because there are not enough beds ? The place where we have ridiculously high taxes THAT PAYS for our crappy healthcare ? The place where we wait months (even under normal non coronavirus times) for a simple CT scan or xray ? The place where even if I cross the boarder and pay for an X-ray RIGHT NOW the doctors here wont use it and Im forced to suffer for months until I can get one here?

it is still a piece of garbage system

You're Canadian?

It's weird, I always see Americans saying stuff like this but my Canadian buddies say it's mostly bullshit propaganda

I suppose it could vary by location though

the situations in smaller communities isnt as bad but Im near Toronto and any major city has ridiculous problems with healthcare. We are underfunded and understaffed to begin with, and we cant raise taxes anymore.

NOTHING is Free in life.

There is always a cost somewhere.

The sooner you realize that, the better.

And Congress / Federal Government should NEVER EVER be allowed to run things given all the bickering, political machinations, and tools used to manipulate every department they like/dislike.

I want "National Health Insurance" as a SEPERATE Federal Utility.

Something where CONGRESS cannot get their mitts involved in.

The moment CONGRESS or the Executive Branch is involved, it gets fucked up in some way / shape / form and used as a pawn in their political schemes.

Health Care will still be provided by private Hospital and practices, but the "Health Insurance" funding will be fed into by the citizenry and run as a Non-Profit national Utility.

That's the ONLY way I can see it working.

There's probably a decent free market/ecenomic price conscious argument for being against it that probably has some merits... But I doubt most Republican voters actually believe in those reasons and it's more about being scared of things becoming "socialist"

Private insurance wouldnt be so bad if it wasnt so ridiculously expensive even with job sponsored. I know people who have been deducted 1,000 from their first paycheck of the year for family insurance. And Im talking a regular 4k job. Then you have the deductibles which is fkn stupid be if youre paying premiums why should there even be such high deductibles of a few thousands?!?! Its pretty evil if you ask me...and I work for the biggest Health Insurance of the country.

Unfortunately, that got shot to shit a hundred years ago, when regulatory capture forcibly dismantled the low cost private system.

Hey look at that, the "IT'S NOT FREE" and "LONG WAIT TIMES" brigade have arrived.

A) Anyone with a functioning brain understands we mean "free at point of service." Catch up and make meaningful contributions to the conversation.

B) Guess how long my wait time is without insurance: FOREVER. I cannot go to the doctor unless I am literally about to die.

Higher taxes and higher spending. If everyone has health care then people who cannot afford to go to the dr will now be able to go to the dr and they are essentially paying for it. They don't want to pay for other peoples health care. They don't like paying taxes. Basically they only care about themselves. That's what it comes down to. They think that if everyone works like they do that everything will fix itself.

Also, most republicans don't trust doctors. They understand that healthcare is an industry no different than any other that needs to make money, and a lot of the time doctors don't do the right thing and care for the patient, they care about how much money they bring in.

Because pharmaceutical and health insurance companies spend millions of dollars to misinform people about single payer healthcare in an effort to maintain their ability to bleed profits out of people who are sick and dying.
