Its the sneak world building into exposition using a simile to some bullshit I just made up technique.

example:

The summer air was hotter than a wogruffs asscheeks.

or

They ran out of that barn faster than a zippydeezoo chasing a farlyfrop during mating season

like...on paper it sounds like it should work, right? Youre describing something youd have to describe anyway, but youre subtly replacing a cliche with something unique to your storys world.

But I feel like, if Ive never seen a wogruff or a zippydeezoo or a farlyfrop in your story...I dont give a fuck about that lol. Its sort of like Luke bragging about shooting womprats. Like stfu Luke Dorkwalker nobody even knows what that is. And at this point the technique is used so much I feel like its as much of a cliche as the cliches it intends to replace.

Luke shooting womprats is just a character being in character. Luke knows what a womprat is. Everyone else in the story does too. He is in a situation where he needed to brag, so he does.
