Also because it won the poll in my topic asking what playthrough to do next... anyways, like I said, I'm playing through Pokemon Leaf Green (I like its exclusives better than Fire Red's) with the standard Nuzlocke rules:

- Permadeath is active. If a Pokemon faints in battle, it is considered "dead" and will not be used in battle for the rest of the playthrough. A full team wipe is not a game over if I have Pokemon "alive" in the PC, but running out of "alive" Pokemon will result in a game over and require me to start over from the beginning. If I need to use an HM to progress in the game and the only Pokemon I have that can learn it are all "dead", I can withdraw one of them to use their corpse for the HM outside of battle, but they cannot battle and must be deposited again once the HM is no longer needed

- I can only catch the first (non-duplicate) Pokemon that I find in each area. If that first Pokemon faints or flees, no second chances. Static encounters and shiny Pokemon can be caught outside of this restriction and used in the playthrough normally.

- I have to nickname all of my Pokemon to form closer bonds with them, making it sadder when one of them dies.

I just started my game, went to the lab, and picked Squirtle as my starter. I named him Polnareff because I recently watched the episode of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure where *spoilers* Chariot Requiem's mass soul-swapping ability puts Jean Pierre Polnareff's soul into the body of a turtle and it was on my mind. Once I complete the errand for Oak and get the Pokedex and some Pokeballs, the "only catch the first non-duplicate Pokemon in each area" rule will be active and the run will fully begin. I've never successfully completed a Nuzlocke run before, so hopefully this goes well.

On Route 1, the first Pokemon that I ran into was a Rattata, which I caught and named Mickey. Rat, mouse, close enough. Then on Route 2, the first Pokemon that I ran into was a Pidgey, which I caught and named Butterfly as a reference to that one meme where an anime guy points to a butterfly and asks "Is this a pigeon?" Yes, if I catch a Caterpie in Viridian Forest, I'm going to name it Pigeon and evolve it into Butterfree to fulfill the other half of this meme.

The name of the challenge originates from the comic series of the same name, which features a Nuzleaf resembling Lost character John Locke as a recurring gag character.

Just as I hoped, the first Pokemon that I encountered in Viridian Forest was a Caterpie. Welcome to the team, Pigeon. After that, I decided to do some training in the forest before going back to Route 22 for the second rival battle... unfortunately, I got unlucky with a wild Weedle getting a critical hit and poisoning Mickey with the same Poison Sting, the only possible way it could have been knocked out that turn. RIP Mickey.

Party:
Lv10 Polnareff the Squirtle
Lv10 Butterfly the Pidgey
Lv10 Pigeon the Butterfree

Dead:
Mickey the Rattata

Next up is Route 22 and the second rival battle, and then finishing the forest to get to Pewter City. But that'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Yeah, I can imagine a late-game death like that would be rough. I've only attempted a Nuzlocke twice before, but both of them were a while ago (long enough that I can't even which games I attempted them in) and both of them ended in failure somewhere in the middle.

I played a lot today, and I've realized that it's easier for me to do my updates in bullet points like this.

- I went back to Route 22, caught a Spearow and named her Filo (after the cute bird girl from Shield Hero, expect a lot of anime nicknames in this) and then beat my rival. I trained Filo up a little bit in Viridian Forest, but decided to box her for now in favor of focusing on the other Flying-types.
- I made it to Pewter City and beat Brock. No surprise here, Polnareff swept him pretty easily with Bubble.
- I got lucky and found a Jigglypuff as my first encounter on Route 3, so I caught her, named her Hibiki (after the singing anime girl from Symphogear who punches monsters, mountains, and gods) and fittingly taught her Mega Punch with the move tutor on Route 4. I also used the second tutor nearby to teach Polnareff Mega Kick.
- I also caught a Sandshrew on Route 4 and named him Sandler (after the actor, it's all I could think of) but I accidentally knocked out the Zubat that I encountered first in Mt. Moon, so I couldn't catch a Pokemon there due to the Nuzlocke rules. I decided to keep Sandler in the box for now, since he'll be useless against the Cerulean Gym and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to get a better Ground type later on.
- I evolved Polnareff, Butterfly, and Hibiki before taking on the Cerulean Gym. I decided that Hibiki's useful level-up moves came at too high a level to be worth keeping her a Jigglypuff for that long, so it was either use the Moon Stone and evolve her now or just not bother using her.
- I beat Misty and the rest of the trainers in her gym with no casualties. Surprisingly, the Goldeen that the trainer in front of her had was the scariest thing in the gym. Between its high attack power (for this point in the game), the high base power of Horn Attack, the annoyance of Supersonic, and Pigeon missing with Sleep Powder twice in a row, it took three of my Pokemon to low health before I finally defeated it.
- I used the TM from the gym to teach Hibiki Water Pulse, then restocked on items to take on Nugget Bridge and routes 24 and 25 next time.

Party:
Lv18 Polnareff the Squirtle
Lv18 Butterfly the Pidgeotto
Lv17 Pigeon the Butterfree
Lv13 Hibiki the Wigglytuff

Butterfree puts in work. Compoundeyes Sleep Powder is 97% accurate and Butterfree is reasonably fast for ingame. Teach it Dream Eater in Viridian City once you get Cut or Surf and itll wreck the many poison types and fighting types of Kanto.

Also, you can fish for a Poliwag/Whirl once you get a good rod in Viridian, and then trade that for an OP Jynx in Cerulean

Played a little last night and more this morning. Updates:

- Beat my rival and fought through Nugget Bridge, then caught a Bellsprout on Route 24 and named her Dryad (after the tree sprits from Greek mythology). Unfortunately, the first Pokemon I ran into on Route 25 was an Abra, and it fled after breaking out of two Pokeballs while asleep, so I get nothing from this route. After that, I fought through the rest of the route and got the SS Ticket from Bill.
- On the way to Vermillion City, I caught a Meowth on Route 5 and named it Longcat (after the infamous meme cat who unfortunately passed away last month) before depositing her into the box. Probably not going to use her on my team though, barring massive casualties.
- I didn't catch any Pokemon on Route 6 because every kind of Pokemon I could find in the grass (Pidgey, Meowth, Bellsprout) was a duplicate of one I already have, so I'll come back to this route once I have Surf or a fishing rod. I also had a major scare on this route with a trainer taking both Dryad and Pigeon to very low health with critical hits.
- I healed up and went to Diglett's Cave, and I hit the jackpot because the first Pokemon that I saw was the 5% chance at a Dugtrio! And it was at level 31! Thankfully, it only used Fury Swipes once and mostly wasted time using Ground-type moves that had no effect on Pigeon, so I was able to paralyze it, weaken it, and catch it. I named him Tombstone because he'll make sure that Lt. Surge will rest in peace.
- After that, I trained my Pokemon while cleaning out the SS Anne and getting Cut, which I taught to Longcat just to get into the Vermillion Gym. Dryad evolved into Weepinbell during this time as well, plus I taught her Secret Power from a TM.
- Tombstone did his job and put Lt. Surge and his Raichu six feet under. However, since Tombstone has such a huge level lead compared to the rest of my team and he won't be very helpful against the Grass-types in the next gym, I've decided to box him for now. I withdrew Filo to take his place, because more Flying-types will help against Erika and more Normal-types will help against the Ghost-types in the Pokemon Tower.

Party:
Lv22 Polnareff the Squirtle
Lv22 Butterfly the Pidgeotto
Lv22 Pigeon the Butterfree
Lv22 Hibiki the Wigglytuff
Lv22 Dryad the Weepinbell
Lv11 Filo the Spearow

Stored:
Lv6 Sandler the Sandshrew
Lv10 Longcat the Meowth
Lv31 Tombstone the Dugtrio

Dead:
Mickey the Rattata

Another section with no casualties. But I wonder how long my luck will hold out...

Welp... I have 4 badges now, but things got really chaotic on the way.

- I went to Route 11 and caught a Drowzee, who I named Karen since it was female and Drowzee has big "I want to speak to your manager" energy on its face. Then I started training on that route and Diglett's Cave, and it turned out horribly. Most of the trainers on Route 11 were pretty easy, but then a Raticate right at the end got a critical hit with Hyper Fang after Dryad missed with Sleep Powder and KO'd her. RIP Dryad.
- After that, I went through Diglett's Cave to get the HM for Flash on the other side. I had Filo in the lead to try and get some experience killing Digletts who couldn't do much to her... and then a Dugtrio showed up. I couldn't flee because Filo was too low leveled, and she was wiped out by a Fury Swipes from the overleveled Dugtrio. Then Pigeon also couldn't flee and got hit hard, so I decided to put Dugtrio to sleep and try to KO it. I managed to take it down and keep Pigeon alive, but Filo was gone.
- I got Flash and taught it to Longcat, who also has Cut and the useful Pickup ability so he's my HM slave for normal travel now. I also taught Dream Eater to Pigeon using the move tutor back in Viridian City, so thank you to whoever suggested that because it's been a big help. After that, I made my way back to Cerulean City and started on the way to Lavender Town.
- On Route 9, my first wild encounter was with a Rattata, who doesn't count as a duplicate now since Mickey is already dead. I caught him, named him Mickey 2 because I was feeling lazy, and dumped him in the PC to most likely never be used. Then on Route 10, I caught a Voltorb and named it Gutterball because I needed a ball-themed name and my dad happens to be a league bowler. I added it to my party and used my Shock Wave TM to make training it easier, but I had completely forgotten that it learned Spark in like 4 levels, so I wasted that TM by mistake.
- I stopped just outside of Rock Tunnel before I went to bed last night and then resumed my journey this morning.
- I accidentally knocked out the first Pokemon I saw in Rock Tunnel, so no catch there. This place had me terrified because of all the Geodudes and Gravelers I would be fighting that were high enough level to know Selfdestruct, but thankfully I made it through without any explosions.
- After restocking in Lavender Town, my first wild encounter on Route 8 was a Vulpix. Butterfree missed with Sleep Powder (fun fact: after the boost from Compound Eyes, Sleep Powder and Stun Spore have 97.5% accuracy) and then the Vulpix used Roar to end the battle so I didn't get a catch for that route. Thankfully, I got a second chance at a Vulpix on Route 7, and this time I was able to catch it and named her Fenneko after the fox from Aggretsuko. I really wanted to make a Melee Fox joke and name it Wavedash or something, but that doesn't make sense for a female Vulpix.
- I did some grinding on Route 7 and inside Erika's gym, and between that and the Rare Candies that Longcat had been finding with Pickup, I got Fenneko to level 29. That let her learn Flamethrower by level-up, and then I used a Fire Stone to evolve her to Ninetales. After that, Erika was very easy to beat thanks to Butterfly, Pigeon, and Fenneko having type advantages over her, an uneventful end to an eventful section of the game.

Party:
Lv27 Polnareff the Wartortle
Lv27 Butterfly the Pidgeotto
Lv27 Pigeon the Butterfree
Lv28 Hibiki the Wigglytuff
Lv26 Gutterball the Voltorb
Lv29 Fenneko the Ninetales

Stored:
Lv6 Sandler the Sandshrew
Lv10 Longcat the Meowth
Lv15 Karen the Drowzee
Lv17 Mickey 2 the Rattata
Lv31 Tombstone the Dugtrio

Dead:
Mickey the Rattata
Dryad the Weepinbell
Filo the Spearow

Next up is the Rocket Game Corner, the Pokemon Tower, and then making my way to Fuchsia City to face Koga. I do plan on withdrawing Tombstone pretty soon because he'll be useful in the battles against Giovanni, Koga, and Blaine. Also, I didn't pick up the free Eevee in Celadon City yet because I already have Pokemon on my team of the same types as the three eeveelutions you can get in FR/LG. If Polnareff, Fenneko, or Gutterball dies, then I might grab Eevee and evolve it into the corresponding eeveelution to replace that fallen team member.

I also have another tough decision ahead that I wanted to ask you guys about before I go further: What the hell do I do with Snorlax?

With my team where they are and Snorlax's high stats, it's a monster to face and even more of a monster to try and catch. It's a huge risk to try and catch it during a Nuzlocke run, but if it pays off, I have a really strong team member going forward. Do I try to catch the first Snorlax and take the risk of it absolutely dominating my team? Do I play it safe and KO or run from the first one, then come back and try to catch the second one once my team is leveled up more? Or do I play it extra safe, not try to catch either one, and just stick with Hibiki the Wigglytuff as my Normal-type going forward? Part of my whole inspiration for wanting to do a Nuzlocke at some point comes from watching TeamFourStar's Nuzlocke of Leaf Green, and my favorite moment of the whole run was them taking the same risk, it paying off, and Bork Laser the Snorlax becoming one of their strongest team members.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-IWiHnJJAM

Should I take the same risk, or should I go with one of the safer options?

https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Nuzlocke_Challenge

The only two rules considered standard to every Nuzlocke are the "only catch the first wild Pokemon you see in each area" and "if a Pokemon faints it's dead for the rest of the run" rules. Anything beyond that, whether to make the run a bit easier (like only counting the first non-duplicate Pokemon in each area as I'm doing), a bit more difficult (like restricting the use of held items), or a bit more creative (such as nicknaming every Pokemon you catch to give your team more personality) is completely optional and up to the player.

Maybe if I clear this one and do another Nuzlocke in the future, I'll add an extra restriction or two to make it more interesting.

Less progress made, but unfortunately, just as deadly as the last update.

- I beat the Rocket Game Corner and got the Silph Scope, but I underestimated Giovanni's Kangaskhan and it took down 2 of my Pokemon in the process. It woke up from Pigeon's Sleep Powder quickly (it might have had the Early Bird ability), then got a critical hit with Mega Punch and KO'd her. Then, after it took out more than half of Hibiki's health with another Mega Punch, I switched out to Gutterball to try and paralyze it with either Static or Spark, but both of those failed and Gutterball was KO'd too. I was able to finish the battle with Fenneko's Flamethrower after that.
- I withdrew Tombstone and (for Cut) Longcat and went over to Route 16. I went to the patch of grass next to where one of the Snorlax is laying and my first encounter was a Spearow. Since Filo is dead, this isn't counted as a duplicate anymore, so I caught this new Spearow and named her Nero after another cute bird girl from an anime I've watched recently. She's going on my team since I'm now down to 5 other Pokemon fit for battle, and the Pokemon Tower is a great place to train her up since she'll resist the pesky Lick attacks from all of the Ghost-types.
- I got "lucky" and my first encounter in Pokemon Tower was the 9% chance of a Cubone instead of the 90% chance of a Gastly, which would have probably been a lot more helpful at this point. I caught the Cubone and named her Dokuro after a cute anime girl who would regularly bludgeon people to death with a mace. Not gonna use her unless I get really unlucky with deaths later on because I already have Tombstone.
- Fun fact: In gen 3, Spearow learns Aerial Ace by level up at level 25, which is 3 levels after it's supposed to have evolved into Fearow, but Fearow itself doesn't learn Aerial Ace at all by level up. So if you evolve it right away, you miss out on a very useful move.
- I went through the Pokemon Tower and trained Nero on the way, getting her to 25 for Aerial Ace before evolving her. I had a scare with the Marowak spirit using Focus Energy and then getting a critical hit with one half of Bonemerang on Hibiki (if it had gotten a double critical, Hibiki would be dead) but I took it down without any casualties. The Rockets at the top were super easy by comparison, and I got the Pokeflute.

Party:
Lv29 Polnareff the Wartortle
Lv28 Butterfly the Pidgeotto
Lv30 Hibiki the Wigglytuff
Lv29 Fenneko the Ninetales
Lv31 Tombstone the Dugtrio
Lv28 Nero the Fearow

Stored:
Lv6 Sandler the Sandshrew
Lv10 Longcat the Meowth
Lv15 Karen the Drowzee
Lv17 Mickey 2 the Rattata
Lv15 Dokuro the Cubone

Dead:
Mickey the Rattata
Dryad the Weepinbell
Filo the Spearow
Pigeon the Butterfree
Gutterball the Voltorb

Unfortunately, after losing my two best Pokemon for inflicting status effects to help catch Pokemon, I no longer feel comfortable risking trying to catch the first Snorlax with my current team. So I'm going to knock the first one out (or maybe even just run from it if things get scary) to be able to reach Fuschia City, and I'll come back for the second one later. I decided to battle the Snorlax on Route 12 first, so that way I can get the Super Rod further down the route and go catch some more Pokemon from past areas that had water but no patches of grass.

Another update before I go to bed:

- I defeated the Snorlax on Route 12, went further down the route, and got the Super Rod. I fished on Route 12 and some past areas where I hadn't had my first wild Pokemon encounter yet, and my first encounters in these areas were:
+ Route 12 = a female Krabby, which I caught and named Boop
+ Vermilion City = a Gyarados that knocked itself out with confusion damage so I couldn't catch it
+ Route 6 = a female Gyarados, which I caught and named Aoi
+ Pallet Town = a Staryu, which I caught and named Kaleido
+ Viridian City = a male Poliwhirl, which I caught and named Trade Bait
- I traded Trade Bait (big surprise) to a guy in Cerulean City for a Jynx. It's named Zynx and I can't change it since it's a traded Pokemon. I'm benching Nero to add Zynx to my team, and I might use Kaleido later on if I need it. The rest of the fishing catches are "meh" and probably won't be used.
- I've used some TM's on various Pokemon. Some of these were done farther back in the run but I just never made note of them:
+ Return on Polnareff
+ Thief on Gutterball (now gone)
+ Secret Power and Brick Break on Hibiki
+ Rock Tomb and Aerial Ace on Tombstone
+ Psychic and Reflect on Zynx
+ Fly on both Butterfly and Nero
- I made it all the way to Fuchsia City, fighting a bunch of trainers and gaining a bunch of levels, but I didn't battle a single wild Pokemon on Routes 13, 14, or 15 along the way. Most of the grass patches were behind Cut bushes and I didn't bring Longcat with me on the trip.

Party:
Lv33 Polnareff the Wartortle
Lv33 Butterfly the Pidgeotto
Lv33 Hibiki the Wigglytuff
Lv32 Fenneko the Ninetales
Lv32 Tombstone the Dugtrio
Lv33 Zynx the Jynx

Stored:
Lv6 Sandler the Sandshrew
Lv10 Longcat the Meowth
Lv15 Karen the Drowzee
Lv17 Mickey 2 the Rattata
Lv15 Dokuro the Cubone
Lv23 Boop the Krabby
Lv18 Aoi the Gyarados
Lv22 Kaleido the Staryu
Lv28 Nero the Fearow

Dead:
Mickey the Rattata
Dryad the Weepinbell
Filo the Spearow
Pigeon the Butterfree
Gutterball the Voltorb

My next objectives are to go back to Routes 13-15 with Longcat in tow so I can see what I catch on those routes, get the remaining HM's for Surf and Strength in Fuchsia, and train my party more to prepare for battling Koga's gym.

After a string of misfortune, today's update is all good for once!

- I went through the Safari Zone, and my first encounter in the area was a Venonat that I caught and named Fuzzy. After making a beeline for the HMs, I did a second run through the Safari Zone to gather some items that were off the beaten path that I couldn't get the first time, and during this time I ran into a shiny Exeggcute! Shiny Pokemon are an exception to the "only catch the first wild Pokemon you see in each area" rule of a Nuzlocke run, so thankfully it didnt flee and I was able to catch it after a few Safari Balls. I named him Goldmember (since hes a pile of golden eggs that will evolve into a big golden tree) and I'm not sure if I might use him later or if I'll just keep him as a trophy.
- I trained my team against the trainers on Routes 13-15 and while riding my bike uphill in the wrong direction on Cycling Road. During this time, my first encounter catches were a Doduo on Route 17 that I named Roadrunner (after the old Looney Tunes character), a Ditto on Route 15 that I named Sus (because he still looks kinda sus even if he's not the impostor), and a Seaking that I fished up in Fuchsia City that I named Dead Meme (because just thinking of the phrase "Fuck yeah, Seaking!" makes me feel old)
- Polnareff and Butterfly both reached level 36 and evolved during the training, and I also taught Surf to Polnareff. On a side note, Sandler is my new HM slave for Cut and Strength, since Longcat can't learn Strength and I'm pretty sure I'll never actually need Flash again.
- Zynx, Tombstone, and Fenneko cleaned out the Fuchsia Gym pretty easily, including absolutely demolishing Koga for my fifth badge. The Hypno owned by the very first trainer in the gym was the only scare I had, and only because it caught me off guard.
- Since I can use Surf outside of battle now, I decided to swim over to the Power Plant real quick. I caught a Pikachu with my first encounter and named her Railgun (as reference to a certain electricity-using anime girl) and then cleaned out all of the items in the place. I knocked out all of the Electrodes that were stationary encounters, and I left Zapdos alone because it's definitely not worth the risk. There's no rule against using stationary encounters or legendaries in a Nuzlocke, I'm just choosing not to bother with these.

Party:
Lv37 Polnareff the Blastoise
Lv36 Butterfly the Pidgeot
Lv36 Hibiki the Wigglytuff
Lv37 Fenneko the Ninetales
Lv38 Tombstone the Dugtrio
Lv37 Zynx the Jynx

Stored:
Lv6 Sandler the Sandshrew
Lv10 Longcat the Meowth
Lv15 Karen the Drowzee
Lv17 Mickey 2 the Rattata
Lv15 Dokuro the Cubone
Lv23 Boop the Krabby
Lv18 Aoi the Gyarados
Lv22 Kaleido the Staryu
Lv28 Nero the Fearow
Lv22 Fuzzy the Venonat
Lv23 Goldmember the shiny Exeggcute
Lv24 Roadrunner the Doduo
Lv25 Sus the Ditto
Lv23 Dead Meme the Seaking
Lv26 Railgun the Pikachu

Dead:
Mickey the Rattata
Dryad the Weepinbell
Filo the Spearow
Pigeon the Butterfree
Gutterball the Voltorb

I think I'm going to stick with the six Pokemon that I currently have in my party for as long as I can, only replacing them if I suffer any casualties along the way. Anyways, my next objectives are to go to Saffron City, clear Team Rocket out of Silph Co. and then hopefully take down Sabrina, who I am absolutely terrified of. Her Alakazam is really powerful, and things could so south fast if I let it set up a couple of Calm Minds.

Executor (spelling?) is pretty decent in FRLG but since Psychic has been used on Jynx, itll be stuck with confusion as its main attacking move. Still, a 50bp psychic STAB off a 125 base spatk is nothing to sneeze at. Dodrio is also pretty solid, strongest Drill Peck in the game

I haven't used the Giga Drain TM yet, so if I end up using Goldmember on my team, I'll teach him that. But like I said, I'm sticking with the six I have now unless I suffer any casualties.

Another good update today:

- I completely cleaned out Silph Co., got a bunch of items and experience in there, and beat both my rival and Giovanni with little trouble at all. The only threat was Giovanni's Kangaskhan since it took out two of my Pokemon the last time I fought him, but this time I decided to have Fenneko use Will-O-Wisp on it right away to lower its attack power. I also got the Master Ball from the Silph Co. president, but I'm not going to use it outside of an extreme emergency to the point where going back to the Power Plant and catching Zapdos is the only way to salvage the playthrough.
- I picked up the free Lapras in Silph Co. and named her Nessie after the Loch Ness Monster. Also in Saffron, I got Hitmonlee from the Karate Dojo and named him Slinky because his legs stretch like a slinky. Are slinkies even a thing kids play with anymore? God, I feel old.
- I went back over to Celadon to stock up on some items, and while I was there I decided to finally catch that second Snorlax now that my team is higher leveled. It turned out to be female, but since I really wanted to make this nickname some sort of wrestling reference as tribute to Bork Laser the Snorlax from TeamFourStar's Leaf Green Nuzlocke, I named her Nyla after a certain large and intimidating former Women's Champion.
- After acquiring those three and doing a bit more training, I went to the Saffron Gym and took down Sabrina for another badge, and she turned out to not be nearly as scary as I expected. I took all of her Pokemon out in 1-2 hits, either with neutral STAB moves or super effective 60 base power Bites. Even the Alakazam I was really scared of didn't give me any trouble because I had Zynx tank its Psychic moves and KO it with Ice Punch.

Party:
Lv41 Polnareff the Blastoise
Lv40 Butterfly the Pidgeot
Lv40 Hibiki the Wigglytuff
Lv40 Fenneko the Ninetales
Lv40 Tombstone the Dugtrio
Lv41 Zynx the Jynx

Stored:
Lv6 Sandler the Sandshrew
Lv10 Longcat the Meowth
Lv15 Karen the Drowzee
Lv17 Mickey 2 the Rattata
Lv15 Dokuro the Cubone
Lv23 Boop the Krabby
Lv18 Aoi the Gyarados
Lv22 Kaleido the Staryu
Lv28 Nero the Fearow
Lv22 Fuzzy the Venonat
Lv23 Goldmember the shiny Exeggcute
Lv24 Roadrunner the Doduo
Lv25 Sus the Ditto
Lv23 Dead Meme the Seaking
Lv26 Railgun the Pikachu
Lv25 Nessie the Lapras
Lv25 Slinky the Hitmonlee
Lv30 Nyla the Snorlax

Dead:
Mickey the Rattata
Dryad the Weepinbell
Filo the Spearow
Pigeon the Butterfree
Gutterball the Voltorb

I'm starting to think I might be a bit overleveled for this point in the game now, so should I start avoiding non-mandatory trainer battles for a while? That would both add a bit more challenge to the end of the run and also leave a decent source of experience in case I need to train up new Pokemon in the event of my current team suffering any casualties.

Youre about normal leveled Id say. Blaines Arcanine is lv 47 and Giovannis Rhyhorn (yes... Rhyhorn. His ace is a Rhyhorn...) is level 50. Even factoring in the Sevii Islands your levels should be about there. Theres a large level jump at the Elite 4, though

Wait, do you go to any of those before the Elite Four? It's been a while since I've done a FR/LG playthrough so I don't remember.

Oh, okay. I may need to pull up one of the FAQs to remember when exactly that happens

Bill asks if you wanna check em out after the 7th gym. Only the first 3, though. Theres not too much to do but its a cute lil storyline and theres a scripted encounter with a level 38 Hypno, among other potential encounters obviously. Also just free exp and items.

Its optional

If I say no when he asks, can I go back to him at any time later and do it if I change my mind? I'm leaning towards skipping it for now, but I could use it as another source of experience points to train any replacement team members if I suffer any casualties.

All right. Thanks for the info, guys. I'll try to play some more and have another update either tomorrow or Friday.
