While I would prefer MG1/2 in the style of the newer ones, MGS is right there.

I've only ever played Twin Snakes so I'd really like to enjoy this one again with the modern gameplay.

I have absolutely zero faith in Konami these days, and the level of recreation it would require even for just a graphical overhaul from a third party is probably outside the scope of what folks like Bluepoint are accustomed to. If it happened there's almost no way it would stand up to the original or even Twin Snakes in all likelihood.

Why would anyone want anything Metal Gear related from a Kojima-less Konami?

I mean, I'd love Hideo to go back and add some complexity and mindfuckery to the stories of Outer Heaven and Zanzibar Land, but if he's not involved I wouldn't touch the Pachinko Factory's output with a barge pole.

I will play it and likely enjoy it because I'm on that MGS train for life, can't deny it. And the bar for MGS remakes is pretty low

But I'd much, much, much prefer remakes of MG1 or 2

Konami selling MGS, Castlevania, etc to anyone who gives a damn would be the best outcome imaginable, but they'll never do it so long as they can capitalize on the IPs through pachinko.

It depends. I know there where heavy rumors that Bluepoint was working on two projects, if the other one besides DS was MGS I'd be on board. Konami themselves internal? Absolutely not.

Remake of Metal Gear 1&2 is absolutely more essential

I wouldn't mind a remake of Metal Gear Solid though as long as they get a replacement for Kojima who has vision and knows what the series is supposed to be about

Oh yeah - I'm doing a replay of V and it's worse than I remember. There's just no reason to play this game. The gameplay/engine is gorgeous, but all the missions are boring AF because there's no real overarching plot. The basic gameplay of the series has always been a pattern of "make it from point a to point b without being seen" then watch a story centric cutscene, then get to a new area of making it from point a to point b. The mission-based gameplay just doesn't work because there's no reason to care.

For example, an early mission asks you to sneak in to a prison and rescue a prisoner. You do it, except the prisoner's been moved already and you have to download an intel file. I just peaced out. There's absolutely no tension to the story whatsoever and the gameplay - as good as it is - isn't fun enough on its own.

I think they should get Kojima Productions to make it.

Hypothetically, if we did get a remake of the original Metal Gear with David Hayter... who would voice Big Boss? David Hayter again, even though it's not supposed to be obvious he's related to Solid Snake at that point? The guy who voiced BB at the end of MGS4? Kiefer Sutherland because it was really Venom Snake all along? But was Solid Snake talking to Venom Snake on the radio, or was the real Big Boss at FOXHOUND HQ while Venom ran Outer Heaven?.

if they wanted to earn our graces again, THIS is definitely how they would do it, but they would have to go all the way

Honestly I wonder if Kojima would even go back at this point. Even if you remove Konami from the equation completely, I feel like he's well past the point in his life where he wants to work on MGS anymore and would rather do crazy avant garde stuff like Death Stranding, which he wasn't able to do for the decades he was tied up with Metal Gear.

There's no way Kojima ever goes back to Konami, in my opinion. Even if Death Stranding wasn't a runaway hit, it still sold enough to prove his company is feasible.

Hayter, maybe if Konami pays him enough. But do we even want Hayter back? Having just recently replayed Peace Walker I can tell you that his voice was really off by that point. I'm sure he can handle one-liners just fine, but I'm not sure I would want him for an entire game. This coming from someone who loved his performances in 1-3.

Finally, if they do remake any of these games, keep "open world" away from it. See my post about MGSV for details.

I've never really understood the need for Konami to hold onto their IP's for pachinko on the basis that I wouldn't think pachinko players would give a damn.
