Why are people acting like getting greenland would be a bad thing? I mean, it has a basically 0 percent chance of happening but if it did it'd be great.

It's not like there isn't precedent for this kind of thing. That's how the U.S. got Alaska, which was formerly part of the Russian Empire.

I dont think the conversation was ever about Iceland.

Greenland could be bought and sold. The last offer we made was in 1946.

It would be horrible for the people of Greenland though

Would they retain the same autonomy AND the same economical help as Denmark gives them?

Thered probably be significantly more economic development. I also cant imagine anyone would care if the 50,000 that lived there kept their autonomy.

They would lose a lot of the economic help, and their healthcare would probably go to shit.

And then massive amounts of oil and natural gas drilling would be ramped up, severely damaging their environment and possibly mildly poisoning their water.

For the EEZ extension alone, Greenland would absolutely be a fantastic addition to the United States, especially in Arctic waters.

The issue that people had, however, was that Trump took offense at the Danes not being willing to sell and even cancelled a diplomatic meeting over it. Couple that with the fact that he seemingly explored a Greenland for Puerto Rico swap, which is grade A lunacy, and you have yet another example of our President being a toddler.

Back in the 1860s, when vast territorial swaps/purchases were the norm. That kind of thing hasn't remotely been usual for decades.

Look at our far north towns like Barrow. They're hellholes.

The US would destroy Greenland, an already very sad place. I'd love to visit though
