Every "solution" online gets automatically fixed and then updates start again eventually. It doesn't matter what I delete or how deep into the registry I go, it keeps coming back.

And I know there's gonna be those smug "herpdyderpdy updating your computer is important" types, but here's the deal. Windows Update is already broken on this machine, I'm just trying to put it out of its misery. It's been attempting to install the same update since last year, and no matter what I do to let it go through, it just...doesn't update. It goes through all the downloading and installing and updating, only to say "we need to update to the same version."

This machine doesn't have the hard drive space for the three gigabyte update cache and I'm getting tired of plugging in external storage and dealing with this nonsense, only for it to fail and have to manually go into C:/ and delete the cache. >_>

So how do I do it? How to I kill Windows 10 update and make sure it never bothers me again? This machine isn't used for anything except writing and watching Netflix, and hasn't had a single virus in the two years I've owned it. I think I'll be gucci. And even if I'm not, it was less than 200 dollars it's easily replace if it comes to that. <_<

If you don't play games on it, Linux might be better

Maybe repost this in the PC board. I have an old dual core laptop that is too old for Windows 10 and it had 100% disk usage and would eventually overheat and shut off during normal tasks.

I need to put Windows 7 back on it but I until then I was able to deactivate some things like the Windows Store using some registry commands and it helped.

In the hosts file set the entire CIDR block owned by Microsoft to 127.0.0.1 then you can't get any updates ever again. You also won't be able to visit any website owned by Microsoft or hosted on azure but it'll work.

It says right here in Matthew 16:4 "Jesus doth not need a giant Mecha."

You can't. Windows Update is like life in Jurassic Park. It always finds a way.
