It is interesting that the approval of the politicians response to the pandemic is diminishing after the spread of the virus and the death rate have dropped significantly. The failure with our nursing homes, which led to the initially high death rate, is one factor. And all parties are responsible for elderly care since it is run by each of the 290 municipalities. Which reflects in approval drop for all 8 parties.

The approval of the Governments response (two parties) drops from 50% to 36%.

The approval of the opposition parties response (6 parties) drops from 30% to 14%.

Note: all 8 parties agreed to the response from March to June. After some opposition parties began to try to distance themselves from that fact approval starting falling.

Didnt you guys have issues getting people to wear masks? Or was that Denmark?

My mind is an open book, do you find it entertaining? At least be original in your responses then.

The Public Health Agency (FHM) is only recommending masks in instances when you cannot socially distance. This is one reason why several people are upset. Agencies have high autonomy and FHM is in charge of the pandemic response in accordance with our Constitution.

The reason they dont recommend wide mask usage is because data from other countries suggest that many dont use masks correctly (they touch them, take them on and off, the nose is not covered), it increases the risk of ignoring social distancing which has lead to the virus spread going up in several countries with mandatory mask usage while our spread is going down.

I personally use masks when out though.

Some facts regarding Sweden compared to other nations:

We peaked at #7 regarding deaths per capita and is now at #10 with the USA set to overtake us maybe as soon as today.

We peaked at #18 regarding cases per capita and is now at #34.

Is this really the case? I've seen arguments along the lines of "It's very difficult to implement" and "With the current infection rate, we'd need 100k mask wearers to prevent 1 infection" as well. But you're probably more insatt.

That video is from July. A lot has happened since. The deaths per capita difference between the US and Sweden was 30% then. Now it is basically nothing: 576 dead per 1 million Swedes vs 573 dead per 1 million Americans.

It's also a piece that is very clearly framed to smear Sweden as much as it can, rather than to give an accurate view of how things are here

The difficult to implement arguement is tied to how people use the masks. Successful implementation of masks means that almost everyone must use them correctly and that it doesnt make people social distance less.

I would very much like to see obligatory mask use on public transport at least. Since you will be close to strangers.

That too. Several left-leaning US news sites seem to focus on smearing Sweden with cherry picked and sometimes untrue data.

I kind of half agree. I would rather we actually put in more public transport so it's feasible to keep distance. And so they can take fewer passengers per train/bus. But we all know that's not gonna happen
