I wanted to do something while I was there, like a prank because I know these people would find it funny. But I figure a treasure hunt is just as good, with less of a chance it falls flat.

What I did was, I took the album "Tim" by The Replacements(My name, and just a good album) and put it into their record collection, right next to their unopened copy of Battles' La Di Da Di. I encourage them to listen to this and give it back, but the actual treasure is a half ounce silver round I stuck in the Tim album.

I told them there was a treasure hidden in a normal area of the house but gave no real clues except for a very cryptic message.

"Tim" Horton's

...Because the album is named Tim and the font is very similar to the Tim Horton's restaurant font. Like, this is the kind of clue you find out after the fact what it means and you get mad because its so obvious but also provided no help at all in the grand scheme of things.

When I placed the treasure a half ounce dog was going for 14.75 if i recall. Right now that same half ounce round is 13.88.

Their decision to "wait" to find it has not currently paid off.

The person said they looked for it but didn't find it. I would assume they are gonna go through their albums eventually and find it. Every time they sit down to watch television or listen to music it is STARING THEM IN THE FACE. So at some point it'll happen. It has only been two weeks.

If you went away to visit family and discovered you were going on a treasure hunt, would you care? I'd find it to be the coolest shit if this happened to me. Especially because its real treasure and not some Hickory Farms Christmas box you really dont like(fuck the pineapple candies, subpar mustard and medicore meat. crackers are alright though). But...would YOU think this is cool, or what? Maybe you'd think it's weird. But I wanna know.

It is weird, but I get it. It is just the sort of weird that I would probably entertain enough to go crazy about until I figured it out.

But was their response one of being interigued enough to actually care to find it? Or was it a kind of unsatisfying "Oh. Okay then!" to where they didnt seem nervous enough to actually be concerned that it may have been something malicious, but disinterested enough to make you disappointed that you'd do something like that for them and they didn't express enough comfortability with you doing such a thing?

Kinda like a... "Oh! Well alright sporto. I uh, hope that I don't miss it!

-Spends the next two weeks not giving a shit while you bear the uncomfortability of feeling weird about it-"

Oh right, you told them it was treasure. That makes it less weird, but I guess I'm asking more of how close you are with the people past visiting them to do your job.

The funny part about it is that I'd usually expect any dogsitter employers to have cameras in their house, so if that were the case they could also just cheat your quest if they were lame enough.

I don't really feel weird about it, but I am curious about it though.

They seemed to think it was a cool idea, I feel like. I did mention they don't need to go crazy looking for it as one day they should naturally come across it. They said they looked "almost everywere" but didn't find it.

If I had to guess I feel like they think it is a cool idea. I did specify it was hidden in a normal area of the house, and said it wasnt hidden so good you need to go crazy, so I think they aren't really paying it much mind now(three weeks later), but when they find it I bet they will be stoked.

for conext I know this girl through because i work with her and have met her husband twice. So, I don't know them super well, but we enjoy working with eachother and she trusted me enough to live in her house for 4 days to dogsit. So I know these people well enough to know they would probably think this is cool, but not like well enough to where we're actual friends or whatever youd call it.

I also do this sometimes but in stranger's houses and the treasure is my body.

It wpuld be cool if it weren't for the clue that doesn't even help. As is it's just "Hey, I hid something somewhere in your house. You'll probably eventually find it." A proper treasure hunt would have likely been more fun for them. A real clue leading to a series of other real clues with the treasure at the end.

On some level, I'd be bothered by that because it implies you went sneaking around my house looking for hiding spots, which sort of feels like a violation of the trust I placed in you asking you to watch my house in the first place. On an intellectual level I'd understand you were just trying to be clever and playful, but on a visceral level I'd still kind of find you a bit creepy.

I'd probably spend all of maybe 20 minutes trying to look around to see what you hid, and if I couldn't find it, I'd ask you to tell me. And if you just kept being cutesy about it and refusing to answer, I'd start getting pissed at you. And if you still kept refusing to just admit it in an attempt to force me to play your game, I'd probably stop thinking of you as a friend, and start thinking of you as an asshole.

Regardless, I probably wouldn't ask you to house-sit my house ever again.

I didn't go sneaking around the house to find spots. The plan the whole time was to hide it in a record id place in their collection. I also did specify normal area of the house to make sure they knew I wasn't doing anything weird.

These people pretty much said i could do whatever i wanted so long as i didn't break or mess up anything. They seemed very open. If i felt these people weren't open i wouldn't have done this.

I would hide a pair of ladies underwear in the man's underwear drawer and wait for the drama to unfold.

At the very least i know these people well enough to know they wouldn't likely be bothered by it and they weren't. As far as them actually caring i feel like they do but i also could be wrong.
