My boyfriend and I have planned to move there for a while but the pieces are now in place (hes done with his specialist education and we got an apartment, via relatives, to live in until we can buy our own place there).

Now all we need are jobs but both work in healthcare so that shouldnt be too big a problem. Stockholm got many jobs in general but housing is the issue.

You better finally visit me when I live in Sthlm @Parappa09 . After the pandemic is over.

Thanks! Please keep your fingers crossed Ill get a good job offer quickly.

A relative owns an apartment in Stockholm but lives in another part of the country and he has offered us to rent it while we search for our own place.

We plan to buy since if you can afford to shell out the 15% which has to be in cash (we can borrow the remaining 85% from a bank) when buying an apartment or a house it will end up being cheaper monthly than renting in Stockholm. Plus we will be paying to ourselves rather than a landlord if we buy. We have scoped out a couple good areas where we can afford the 15% so now everything just gotta fall into place haha.

so basically 15% deposit/downpayment and then 85% mortgage? that's not a bad ratio if you can get a decent place

Yeah, that is a better way to put it in English haha. We got our eyes set on Solna. It is its own municipality but really close to central Stockholm. Solna got a subway line, a commuter train line and busses.

@T.C.:
What is the roundabout cost for the rent-to-own on the place you're considering?
How much is insurance (floods/fire/hurricanes/termites/bugs)?
What is the average hourly wage in the area?

Not everyone else wants to stay in the U.S. forever, good to know from a fellow CEtizen.

good luck with your new life!

The rent for the type of place we got in mind is 13-17K SEK/month depending on exactly where in the municipality it is located (distance to public transportation etc).

If we buy then the monthly cost for the apartment including utilities and mortgage payment will be 10-11K

My current home insurance is 100 SEK/month which covers burglary, fire, water damage and such including bugs. Hurricanes dont happen in Sweden.

Regarding salary, the median monthly salary in the entire Region of Stockholm is 30K SEK. Do you work in a specific field?
