anyone know what this was a response to, specifically? i get that Epic is fighting Apple's lockdown/control over apps on iOS, but out of the loop beyond that.

All I'm getting from the actions list is that they think apple's sales tax on mobile apps is way too high, at 30%, and they want it lowered.

They have money, but not Google and Apple levels. They are digging themselves into a hole, unless they know some sort of law on their side.

They've got a much stronger case against Apple than they do with Google. Google let's people install any app they want. Apple doesn't. There's a legitimate anti trust case to make against Apple.

agreed that the case against Apple is stronger, but there is a case to be made against Google with how they spam security warnings etc anytime something non-Google is installed.

i dont get how they can sue and dictate the cut Apple or google charges for purchases on THEIR store.

it's about anti-trust / anti-competition practices. Apple basically forces all software that runs on their platform to be sold through their store, where they take a significant cut of the sales. users of iOS have no legit competition against Apple when it comes to downloading / installing software.

not all ToS are legally binding / valid. that's what court cases get into sometimes

I don't think Epic thinks they will win anything. I think their goal is to ultimately come to a fee percentage less than 30%.
