Or do people feel that it doesn't really matter because, even if she dies, Democrats can stall voting on a replacement until the next president takes office? (aka Garlanding a candidate) Because a SCOTUS justice being in poor health otherwise seems like big news.

Ginny is 87 now, has had health problems in the past, and plans to retire eventually.... but has mentioned wanting to wait for a while (presumably until somebody is out of office)

Democrats couldn't stall on voting on a replacement - they're the minority party in the senate and Moscow Mitch did away with the filibuster for SCOTUS nominees in order to steal the Garland seat and give it to Gorsuch.

I note you also didn't mention that Roberts was also hospitalized last month. Odd for you to omit that and just focus on Ginsburg.

I don't know why Americans tolerate the fact that the political orientations of their Supreme Court judges actively affects federal law.

Less likely to encounter news since I'm not driving as much which means less NPR. Sounds like the board also dropped the ball on reporting about that, although Roberts is generally in better health than Ginny anyway considering he's over 20 years younger and iirc never had cancer, as well as a lot of Ginny's other health problems.

She is taking care of herself, she wants to make sure she lives until the racist is out of office and a decent president can make an appointment.

Well, we've got a decent one now. However, if you're aiming for something higher, can she hold out hundreds if not thousands of years?

It's ridiculous to expect justices, judges, etc, to be machines. However, and far more importantly, "conservative" justices (ie, really just Republican-nominated justices) are far more likely to vote against their political orientation than liberal judges. The liberal justices typically always vote together on ideological lines whereas "conservative" justices tend to either vote with liberals, dissent, write separate opinions, etc. Or, in other words, Democrat-nominated candidates almost always vote Democrat, whereas Republican-nominated candidates tend to vote more independently.

She massively fucked up by not retiring halfway into Obama's 2nd term.
I distinctly remember people suggesting to her that she retire (she already had a lengthy and notable career on the bench by then), and she refused. I'm guessing she deeply regrets that decision now...

He says this like conservative "justices" aren't responsible for the worst ruling in modern history with citizens united.

He said that she wants to wait until Trump is out of office. What's confusing about that?

If they regain control of the senate, they could.
There are zero scenarios where the Democrats lose the presidency, but somehow take back the senate. They either lose both, win both, or take the presidency but fail to take the senate.
