Restaurants will be able to reopen soon - the catch? Check out the following rules they need to adhere to. Keep in mind, after this in the eyes of the government they are considered "open for business" and will no longer be getting subsidies to keep them afloat

  • Tables must be arranged so that there is six feet between the edges of every table and less than 50% of capacity is available
  • No more than 6 people per table
  • Waiting area should not have seats and there will be the usual 6 feet floor markers.
  • Physical barriers must be installed between staff and customers at cash register, check in...
  • Buffets and self-serve areas must be removed.
  • Directional arrows
  • Masks must be worn at all times except when eating.
  • Single use menus are preferable.
  • Customers must be seated (you cant go up to the bar for example).
  • Loud or live music is prohibited because it causes people to lean in to hear each other and speak louder.
  • Contact information of customers will be collected for contact tracing.
  • Staff logs will be kept for contact tracing.
  • Patios use should be encouraged but the same rules apply outside as they do inside.
  • Patios must be open air (no tents or other structures) but can have umbrellas.

What's ridiculous about this? We're in a fucking pandemic. What's so hard to understand. Restaurants shouldn't be reopening this soon at all rn in Toronto milotic.
You're missing the point. If they were kept closed, they would keep getting government subsidies to keep them in business. Instead they give these farcical reopening guidelines and say okay you're open now and you're on your own.

I haven't been to a restaurant recently, but I ordered take out from one. They have a lot of the same rules and they were pretty busy when I went to go pick it up. I agree with what you are saying, it sucks for them to lose the government money that was keeping them afloat and that with these rules they may not attract customers, but honestly what else can be done? Hopefully for them they have some loyal customers who will help them out and dine there or order take out.

Also is it 50% table seating or 50% of the dining area?

I don't know what to tell you. Those restaurants were screwed from the get go by this virus. Even if the law says that they can reopen without any restrictions, they were most likely going to still be doomed. Most people aren't willing to eat out these days and the reduction of service will eventually force them to close down. Lol

Probably for a while. They did the same thing with tennis clubs here. "no touching the ball" was one of the rules on another absurdly long list that makes playing impractical. Wtf?

Why? Contact tracing is one of the strongest defenses we have. If you're ok with them taking you credit card you should be ok with them taking down you name and number. What if someone was infect while you were there? Wouldn't you like to know so you can get tested or at least avoid high risk people? Of all the things to be upset about, that shouldn't be one of them. What, do you think they are going to give your number to telemarketers? Do you think they are going to call you in the middle of the night and ask what the stars are made out of?

Also the mayor you are talking about died.

Here's a real question. Those rules, while understandable for the interest of public health, seem to have no appeal for people who are wanting to go out and enjoy themselves and spend a good amount of money on food. I can see if it was a necessity like groceries or taking the transit if you need to go to work. But this is somewhere you voluntarily go to have a good time. Why would anyone go with rules like that? It doesn't sound fun at all. Prison meal time is more appealing than this. The restaurants, like the tennis clubs with the "no touching the ball rule", should have stayed closed until they were ready to reopen for real.

So ridiculous that they are very similar to restrictions across Canada where covid cases have stayed low.

Next week will be week 3 since we entered stage 2 in BC. We recorded one case in the entire province today. Restaurants seem to be doing ok and plenty of people out on the patios.

Are they actually following these ridiculous rules or are those just sort of for show then people get on like normal. I suspect this is what they've been doing at the tennis clubs.

Yeah, I know in MAryland we're require to wear masks to enter a store. Every single fucking coworker of mine takes our mask off in the break room for their lunch. The entire lunch. I somehow doubt hospitals are any different.

This is pretty much how we're doing it in Australia. When I went to the pub the other day, you were assigned a table with a number on it for dinner, and all the tables were spaced out according to social distancing protocol. You couldn't walk around with a beer, you had to stay put until your beer was finished or leave it there while you get up.

At my local supermarket, there are plastic barriers between customers and cashiers, and the self serve checkouts have dividers too.

Loud music is a no-brainer, since pubs, bars and restaurants aren't exactly equipped for big nights out at the moment. Why would you go out to eat and casually drink at a place with music blasting at full volume, when you can't even dance or hang around the bar casually?

The information provided is to contact attendees in the event of a coronavirus outbreak. My local pub has people writing their details in an exercise book with a pen.

I'm sorry that other western countries aren't incensed about Coronavirus restrictions like you guys are, I guess.

I'm in Toronto. I'm pointing out the absurdity of it. If eating at a restaurant was a duty we were forced to endure, it makes sense. Why anyone would go to a restaurant and subject themselves to this shit voluntarily is beyond me. It doesn't sound fun at all. I'd rather be doing anything else including playing tennis without touching the ball
