Does the opinion of "guns can be used productively as tools, and depending on the actual need that someone has for a certain kind of gun, they should be granted permission to own more powerful firearms with more accountability for the destruction that their weapon produces" a pro-gun take? Or is a proper pro-gun stance "more people should have access to more guns, and anything less than that is tyranny"?

This. America and the culture around it is screwed and the legality of guns in and of itself is less relevant while America and its culture around guns is present.

I consider myself to be a pretty strong leftist, but I mostly support having guns as a means of basic protection (like if someone breaks into your house) and for going hunting. I live in an extremely rural area, so I understand that guns are very much something that people can need to have... it's not uncommon to have a bear wander into the yard around my house, for example, and how you would need a gun in that kind of situation should probably not need to be said.

However... Having assault rifles and such? No one actually needs them, and anything that goes beyond what you could reasonably need should definitely be against the law.

I have no interest in gun clubs or armed insurrection against my country. Im pro-gun because I feel its a necessary step to protect myself and my family against the far-right nut jobs that like to fetishize guns and pretend that the Second is more important than the First.
