Smash was likely cut because the online isn't stable enough for an open tournament and Nintendo never announces anything for it at EVO like the other original lineup games tend to get.

Wouldn't hold your breath much at all. It seems like the four games getting tournaments were picked specifically because they have the best netcode. The main lineup games are only getting "exhibitions" and announcements, which is basically code for "Yeah the netcode is too bad to do anything big."

Dammit, everyone was hoping this was gonna be a recking for Capcom and Namco, but instead they just get to continue to feign ignorance.

Pretty sure more fighting game fans were looking forward to Evo being a trash fire this year than actually going well!

Pretty amazing how CastleSuperBeast (Super Best Friends) talked about this for over an hour last week, and listed what 5 games should be here, and all 4 of these games are from that list. Shame Power Rangers didn't make the cut, but knowing Saban they probably weren't allowed.

Smash getting cut for the My Little Pony fangame that got C&Ded, only to turn around and get the creator of Friendship of Magic to design new furry characters for them to use and become a legit fighting game is quite the bit of schadenfreude. Nintendo, your online sucks so bad that Them's Fighting Herds replaced you at EVO.

Haha no. Of course not.

People are so quick to obliterate EA and Activision online and make them quickly make changes to whatever it is that's the problem. I have an ad on my phone right now with Fallout 76 boasting it now has NPCs (loooool). But everyone gets so limpwristed when it comes to Nintendo.
