...removed the video?

People on CE were incensed that this video - depicting people being shot to death by a mass shooter - was being scrubbed from the internet and attracting fines and police attention to anywhere which hosted the video for public viewing, and argued that anyone who wanted access to it should have a place online for them to find it.

My opinion is that it should exist in its full, original context, but accessible to academics and law enforcement only. You want to see the video, go and get a degree in criminal law or something relevant to preventing/stopping a massacre in-progress. Folks who were seriously arguing that a video depiction of 50 Muslims being shot to death should be available openly on the internet for anyone to see - they're fucking dumb.

Censorship is bad, and it's really not hard to find.

Censorship is bad, when it involves completely and totally destroying evidence that something exists. That's why I harbor hatred towards Mao Zedong in particular, the bastard wiped out centuries of Chinese architecture, history, art and culture and turned China into the authoritarian, sweatshop-littered hellhole it is today.

I don't think it's a pressing issue when any Joe Blow has trouble finding video depictions of mass shootings, given that those depictions exist in their entirety and serve a noble purpose. It shouldn't be locked up like the centuries of Catholic artifacts under the Vatican, where they decide what's scripture and what's apocrypha and dogma - if it can be used in an educational manner, then academics pursuing education in a field relevant to mass shootings and radicalisation should have access to it.

I just don't think it should be widely available to any sick fuck looking for entertainment.

no, my views do not allow for me to subscribe to anything other than a black and white worldview, 100% of the time on every topic

Like damn, there's being a Karen who demands the destruction of Harry Potter and Pokemon for depicting sinful, transgressive content that directly clashes with the word of Christianity, and there's wanting to limit access to a mass shooting video because 4channers looking for a kick and white supremacists wanting to strengthen their hate by celebrating the deaths of minorities are a crowd that shouldn't be abetted. People shouldn't be exposed to mass murder.

If a private platform doesnt want to host that type of content, that should be their right. But if another wishes to, they should be allowed.

Thats kinda how it works right now in the real world. So theres that.

wonder how you'd apply that logic to say child porn? i mean, they're both horrible acts that potentially will promote more horrible acts, but with your reasoning i guess its ok to post on a private platform as long as they allow it?

Possessing and hosting child porn is currently illegal in most places. To my knowledge hosting violent content is not.

I don't think you intended to dodge the question, but it's not about legality, it's about harm, it's about the basis of why child porn is illegal.
