1934 C series Julian/Snyder $50 Federal Reserve Note.

So yeah, the other day I was working at a store I had never been to before(modest storefront, cavernous back room). Anyways, a customer paid another person there with it and I saw it and of course had to have it. I...don't know if the cashier who took it would have noticed. I could make out the customer had some form of pre-1996 $50, and was thinking it could be old since it "had to look" from afar.

This bill is not rare from a collectors standpoint, and its in really rough shape with pencil markings on it, making it worth just $50 or $55. Not really enough to care about the resale value, but to find one of these in circulation is cool! There is another one to mark on the checklist!

Now, despite the fact this bill says "1934C" on it, is it really from 1934?

HECK NO IT AINT.

The 1934 signifies the series design, the suffix(none, A, B, C, D) refers to which signature combination is on it. A major design change changed the series, signatures changed the suffix. in the 70s this was changed so signatures OR design changes would update the series, and as such we haven't had a suffix below A since 1969D.

Based off of when Snyder served as Secretary of Treasury, this note was likely printed in the 40s or 50s. His name appears on 3 series: 1934C(Julian/Snyder) 1934D(Clark/Snyder) and 1950(Clark Snyder).

Yeah. If it was in nicer condition or a star note it'd be a different story.

However I'll take a piece of history for free any day of the week.
