I finished the blue route a few days ago and I'm having a hard time seeing why this game was so beloved. I know the story is fleshed out more in the yellow route and I already read the spoilers since I'm not playing this game a second time but I'm not really sure why they couldn't put that stuff into the blue route too.

Dimitri barely gets any resolution for Duscur (you know, his entire character arc) except a rumor that maybe his step-mom had something to do with it. His revenge plot against Edelgard doesn't even make a whole lot of sense considering she tells him a few times she didn't have anything to do with Duscur. If you follow her path you even see that she's fighting the people who were responsible!

Also the entire Rhea plot is just completely brushed to the side in the blue path. You literally don't even see her again in part 2. How do you leave a plot thread like that open when half of the characters will not stop talking about how their motivation for invading the capital is almost exclusively to save Rhea?

I understand that the developers probably expected everyone to play through the game multiple times but the combat is so simple and mindless that I can't believe people would actually do that. The sim stuff is also very barebones and the 2nd part of the game is basically a dinner simulator so you can watch 30 second skits of characters interacting.

I did like the characters in the blue house and the plot was fine (before they just ignored half of the setup for no reason) but almost everything else about the game felt a little too simple.

I had high hopes for this game because of the praise and because it was my first FE game and most of the experience was pretty disappointing. Is this really the best that FE has to offer? Not trying to start any fights because I really did want to like this game.

imo 3H is fun despite its mess of a plot

i was more entertained by the gameplay and character interactions than I was by the overarching plot

If you dont like the gameplay then Fire Emblem isnt for you, yeah. Previous games are just the battles so if you dont like those theres nothing else.

I liked the gameplay but not enough to play the same first half of the game repeatedly.

Yellow route is just blue route with one change and actually resolves the entire story at the end.

But yeah there really isn't a good excuse for all the routes to exist and it would have likely been better served as a standard linear game.

What difficulty did you play?

It's basically not even a video game on normal, I say as someone who never plays games on high difficulties.

I did play on classic normal and I've heard that it's better on hard but I don't feel like the strategy would have changed much for the maps. The battle system itself is just too simple

I think Three Houses offers a great foundation to build on for what I hope the series becomes. I'm not sure if I'm in the minority on that, though. I like having the ability to freely interact with and mold my units. It makes everything more personal.

I liked building up my units and working toward master classes but I also felt it was pretty restrictive too. There's only one master class for sword (Mortal Savant) and one for male bow (Bow Knight). Also I kept some people at Advanced classes because it actually felt like a downgrade moving them into master classes. Mercedes was a great white mage but she lost her specialization by advancing to Gremory. Master classes should be MORE refined not less refined.

Also anyone without a mount is just lol. You need to win fights to get EXP but the only way to do that is by ignoring all of your characters who actually have movement. Every map objective is either kill everyone or kill a commander on the other side of the map. There was one auxiliary battle where you had to protect Rhea (while killing everyone) but otherwise the slow tanky characters just don't get the job done.

I think they could do themselves a big favor just by injecting some creativity into their map objectives.

Hey thanks!

I'd love to hear why people liked this game so much if anyone has an opposite opinion. It just felt like all of the systems were a little too shallow for what I expected to be a top of the line SRPG

I've got 250 hours and am on a 4th playthrough of the game, and if someone said they didn't like it I'd be totally understanding.

To me, the biggest issue is that Hard is still not hard enough and Maddening is too hard. 2 full playthroughs worth of renown and starting Tha game with A-S ranks for multiple skills for all the most powerful characters in the game and this is still a nightmare.
