So make it illegal and easily reportable to purposely raise rent for stuff like this

Never thought of moving or a mortgage? They teach supply and demand in elementary school.

That's completely unnecessary. Rent isn't based on a renter's money.

UBI doesn't change supply or demand(much). A person who gets UBI isn't going to rent an extra empty apartment.

A program to help you when you need it, but only if you need it, and money you control. And we're surprised people want cash up front? That's why I'm against UBI. We'll end up with the same problems when people don't spend it on food and rent first in lieu of lotto tickets.

Hes implying landlords are going to raise rent not rent extra apartments

He phrased it as health insurance not Medicare. Health insurance has a well deserved bad reputation because of unusable five thousand dollar co-pays.

No one is going to buy 1 thousand dollars worth of lottery tickets a month until they starve to death. That's absurd.

I obviously know that. He's being stupid because supply and demand will not change.

It's a cheap shot, but be realistic, slip in alcohol, drugs, electronics, and other things people spend on now that hurts their ability to pay the bills, and you have a realistic scenario. Hell, I have a cousin in debt to several family members, but instead of paying it back, she needed that back tattoo.

It's a culture that thinks luxury first, necessity second, so again, I've little wonder why they want cash, not programs. Same reason people bawk at the idea of controlling what food stamp can be spent on.

Ah yes, paying off your debts so you don't pay more interest is absolutely horrible!
We need people lining the coffers of insurance companies and by extension hospitals and their rich doctors who overcharge.

There's only so much alcohol, drugs, and electronics a person could buy. They'd either die of alcohol poisoning, OD, or run out of storage.

I wouldn't be opposed to committal to an asylum for the few that self destructive and suicidal.

Btw, a charity did a study in Africa where they just gave people money.

They expected things like booze and drugs but instead the villagers bought new roofs and one guy a motorcyle and started a taxi business.

It's interesting how UBI, a nominally good idea, got so corrupted by neoliberalism

People with health issues definitely aren't taking the 12k. That 12k would be gone in a couple months on my meds. I wouldn't be able to get groceries at all

This here is an actually good case against Yang's implementation of UBI. Yang's plan should have a Public Option or Medicare not just UBI.
