Its getting great reviews by critics, but people who like Malick's new films have been saying something to the tune of 'everything that people accuse Malick's new films of is taken to parody levels in this one, why are they praising it now?'.

this one is about:

The Austrian Franz Jgersttter| a conscientious objector| refuses to fight for the Nazis in World War II.

RT had this: Ambitious and visually absorbing, A Hidden Life may prove inscrutable to non-devotees -- but for viewers on Malick's wavelength, it should only further confirm
his genius.

This is exactly why I can't stand Malick films

My favourite director but I'm not too hyped for this one, just seems strange that critics are suddenly loving him again.

For some reason this made me think of Werk Ohne Autor (forgot the English title) which I saw last year.

I like everything he made up through The New World. I'm split on Tree of Life, didn't like To The Wonder, and haven't bothered with the rest. He seems to be at his best when he has a strong story (something the actors can sink their teeth into), with lots of interesting elements on the edge of it (often related to film genre), to focus on. His last several movies just seem far too loose, don't give the actors as much to do, and don't seem to be wandering off to anywhere interesting.

Tree of Life was a masterpiece imo

i'd rank em this way

Thin Red Line
Tree of Life
Days of Heaven
The New World
Badlands

I love the first one, and i like but don't love badlands, but i won it so i should give it a rewatch i thought Days of Heaven was beautiful looking trash the first time i watched it

I might watch this eventually, but the only other movie of his that I've seen is Tree of Life, and I hated it.

particularly Thin Red Line and Days of Heaven

I prefer Malick the more abstract and less plot focused he gets, so Knight of Cups and Song to Song are incredible to me.
