I'd be down for a remake of Willow.

Just make sure the special effects are good on the Eborsisk. I don't want it look like some mid-2000s CGI puppet.

Tbh I never saw the original movie. But I played the shit out of the NES game when I was like, six. I'd be super down for a proper port/remake of it. It was sort of doing the LttP thing a whole year and a half before LttP. >_>

The NES game functioned as a sequel to the movie. I can't remember whether or not it was based on the original plans for a movie sequel, but the events of the game take place after the events of the movie.

It's a bit of a love it or hate it kind of movie, but it's worth checking out if you get a chance.

George Lucas got turned down for a Flash Gordon adaptation, so he made Star Wars. He got turned down for a Lord of the Ring adaptation, so he made Willow. And when his buddy Steven Spielberg got turned down for an Indiana Jones adaptation, the two collaborated on Indiana Jones.

George Lucas is not a guy to be told he can't do something.

Hot take.. the movie Willow sucked. I didn't even like it as a kid, saw it in theaters and was disappointed.

Given the fact that I have only met one person in my life who has even seen the movie, I'm not sure how hot of a take this is. fufufufufu

Lucas teamed up with some Sf author back in the 90's and wrote a trilogy after the film. Shadow Wars I think? I wonder if that will be based on that at all or if Disney is gonna toss that shit out the window too?

Like I said, it has a bit of a love it or hate it reputation.

Some people think it's the most underrated fantasy movie of all time. Others think it's a movie where the heroes walk from one location to another and not much is accomplished. There are only four action sequences to speak of and what you'll think of Madmartigan is probably what you'll think of the movie. But I'd recommend giving it a chance if you get the opportunity to watch it. You might like it. You might not. It's worth finding out for yourself.

I enjoyed it very much, but having rewatched it recently it really suffered from lack of scale. Bavmordas entire army was like 50 dudes and General Kael.

Yeah. It's been on my "to do" list ever since they started putting out those anniversary dvds a little while ago. The only thing I know about the movie is that one of the lines is "Madmardegan! Waiiiiiiit!"

and that's because that one person i mentioned found a way to stick that line into one of our conversations at least once a week for our entire high school careers <_<

Iirc it was originally supposed to be a trilogy but didn't take off like they had hoped.

Also Sorsha was one of my first crushes. When she showed up in the last season of Daredevil I was blessed with a nostalgic erection.

We were more or less oversaturated with that stuff at that point.
I myself was never over the top with that stuff as it was, but my brother kinda was.

I was in the mindset that Willow was pretty widely loved. I didn't think it was anything special at all. I expected to get hated on for my opinion on it.

Was that the one with Val Kilmer?
Edit never mind just looked it up...at the time the main character, or w/e reminded me of a little person version of one of my female baby sitters.

The whole thing probably reached near peaked with Dark Crystal with Bowie and Connelly.
The Ewoks probably put it over the top.

There were also some odd tv specials as I remember.

The Star Wars Christmas special is still one of the worst things I've ever watched. It so, so bad.

Gloriously bad.
The Rixtrax for it is the only way to see it.

I guess some of the low budget moments with the actors is kinda nice in a way.
I don't remember that from back in the day at all though.

I forget just how abundant fantasy films were in the 80s. Conan the Barbarian, Legend, Ladyhawk, Labyrinth, Krull, Beast Master, Masters of the Universe, Wizards, DragonSlayer, The Black Cauldron, The Black Crystal, The Last Unicorn, etc.

It seems to hit me every time I watch an 80s fantasy film and ask why we don't have films like that today. I have to remind myself how abundant they were and how most of them under-performed at the box office.

Now that it's been 30 years since this was an actual craze, I think it could be made new again. But I guess it'd be fruitless to attempt it today unless you had some offering that could challenge the scope and scale of Lord of the Rings. I don't know. I'm optimistic that an update of Willow could do better than the original.

Bring back puppetry and none CGI and it's worth giving it a try.
There is nothing wrong with putting something up on a shelf for a few years.
I wish we/they would do that with some music, but that is a whole other story.

With all the franchises that Disney own now I'm guessing Willow would be on the bottom half of stuff they'd like to continue with blockbuster movies.

Oh, crap. I didn't realize that was one of their acquisitions. We're as likely to see a new Willow as we are a live action remake of The Black Cauldron.

Disney need to re-fucking-lax and realize they have everything sow up, and for fuck sake create a or a few, mostly, independent art studios put together some stuff, and see what happens. It is not even a horrible business proposition, in their position. Walt is rolling in his grave. He's probably halfway through to bedrock and on to mantel. ...Unless he really was frozen, was that true? idk.
