But in all seriousness this is such a good freaking game. Started with a Meramon (named him Rom) and got pretty much all the shop and farm upgrades. He died and now Rom II is a Greymon. Just made it to the canyon; Birdramon wrecked me so I gotta train and come back.

i love this music and the pre-rendered backgrounds. Such a lovely experience

I remember getting absolutely lost in that game when I was like 9 or 10. I have fond feelings of that time, but I literally can't remember a fucking thing about the game outside of there being Digimon in it, and generally not knowing WTF to do.

And yet, I feel fondly for it. I should probably try to play it again.

Yeah. The game is famously opaque with its mechanics and event flags. Even with a guide a lot of people get confused. >_>

Thing I realized kept messing me up when I was young was over-training. If you get the teardrop status, you already goofed. You should only train at the gym 4-5 times before resting. And Punimon doesnt fully rest you.

i kept racking up care mistakes through over-training and would end up with Numemon and got so pissed lol

It's a really flawed game, but so much fun IMO.

The Digimon raising system is a bit of a chore, but over time, I've come to the view that it's genius. The focus on a single Digimon means you become incredibly attached to it, and when it dies, it really hits you. Few games create that kind of emotion. It's not all bad, however, as your Digimon lays an egg before it dies, and the Digimon that hatches from it inherits a portion of its parent's stats (not much, although it goes up as you raise more Digimon). All learned moves are also carried over.

I didnt understand how to train digimon
I almost always got poop digimon.
One time i got a good digimon and was able to progress but the next time it evolved it became poop again
I still loved the game tho

I really loved that flawed game. I was super disappointed when I found out the sequels were dungeon crawlers.

Mother loving Greymon just died.

Gonna reset and see if I cant at least trigger Frigimons appearance before he does. Then maybe shoot for an ice-type vaccine Digimon to do the Ice Sanctuary with.

Garurumon kicked my ass though. Might have to just train for an Ultimate. >_>

I went back to it a long time later and luckily was able to understand.
The later games were nothing like it, unfortunately.

But Next Order is prett darn good in it's own way, and feels similar. Gave me an appreciation for Woodmon, who toughed out battles he had no business being in, lol.

if your Digimon meets no other criteria for evolution, it defaults to a shit-slug.

if your Digimon shits on the ground a total of 16 times, it turns into the mutant shit. But he actually eats shit, rather than leaving it. Which is good, because otherwise that shit will stay where you left it like the pyramids.

now, if you scold your Digimon non-stop until their happiness becomes zero, they turn into an acoholic Tamagotchi expat who throws shit.

all three of these digivolve into pretty strong Ultimate levels if you feel so inclined. (monzaemon, etemon, and digitamamon)

This is how I feel about A Link to the Past. I remember really digging the rain and stuff but I don't think I ever did anything but be lost.

Yup, that game - I've played that game. Fun game as I recall but HARD to keep your Digimon happy.

Last time I tried to play that game I was trying to cheese the Centarumon part to turn my Metal Greymon into a Skull Greymon.
