A Black family wants to move out of their inner-city environment. After extensive searching, they find what seems like a very nice house in an idyllic, quiet suburb that's in their price range, with some of the highest-rated public schools in the area for their kids. They're excited to move there, but soon are hit with heavy pushback from the existing residents, who are mostly White with a number of Asian individuals and families scattered within. The (borderline violent) resistance is based purely on the fact that the new family is Black, nothing more.

Obviously, the residents here are in the wrong, but what do you think the Black family should do? Should they move in anyway and hope that the neighbors get over it, or should they write this area off and look for another neighborhood that's less hostile to their presence?

If it was just me, I'd move in anyway any anyone who has a problem with it can go fuck themselves.

...But with a family, I'd probably look elsewhere to live. Don't need my children getting killed because they were "acting suspicious"(Aka minding their own business).

i'm hard pressed to imagine this happening in most of the usa in this day and age, but i can see the police and perhaps unruly teenagers creating unnecessary trouble in some places.

such attitudes are more likely to occur in working class communities than diverse well-to-do suburban communities, though i wouldn't put it past more affluent communities, but the latter tend to be more subtle about their prejudices.

Describes my childhood. My family
moved in anyway and stuck it out. Was called the N word a few times but besides that, its fun telling the racists to fuck off and they dont bother you again.

I think it's more a difference of scale -- with working class people it's largely bricks through the window, slurs directed at them, things of that nature

wealthy people are the ones who enact or influence policy to target black people. I'd say systemic violence like that is still pretty blatant

I would move, got enough stress in my life already. The neighbors are clearly wrong but I honestly just don't feel like dealing with racists right now if I don't have to.
