In high school I had to take at least one economics class (maybe two? because I remember doing a self-study one for some reason).

The first one was personal finance, and then after that you could take a general business economics class or you could take business management where you ran the school's snack bar which was pretty cool.

took an econ course in hs breaking down the fundamentals

but most of my knowledge of economics has come from reading for personal enjoyment in recent years

Senior year of high school we took half a year of government and half a year of economics. Both were awesome classes with great teachers.

Now that I think about it, I think the reason I had to take that self-study macroeconomics class was because I probably failed one quarter of the personal finance class.

But w/e >_>

I took one economics class in high school as a requirement, but it might as well have been worthless as the teacher was a Keynesian. And even then, so many of the students that took her class disregarded all the information that was taught and winded up becoming avid hard-liner self-proclaimed Democratic Socialists worshipping the sack of Bernie Sanders. I too blindly shilled for Bernie in 2015, then I picked up economics material and started a collection of physical books on economics over the years. Hard evidence and facts changed my view of Bernie and I am embarrassed that I ever supported that man and his absolutely fucking ridiculous policies that make zero sense from just a basic entry level mathematics standpoint.

you'll be surprised what some socialist regimes have gotten away with economically when observing sound monetary policy and some semblance of fiscal and economic responsibility

of course, american socialists like bernie and the dsa are proponents of mmt and gung ho in the fiscal/economic irresponsibility they advocate, which flies in the face of any semblance of sound monetary policy

Sophmore year of high school. They taught how to balance a check book and a basic tax form. Also taught us about interest on credit cards. It was only a 6 week class though. They traditionally taught it to seniors, but it got moved to sophomores when the senior level curriculum changed.

We did not have a mandatory economics class. You could take it if you wanted though.

However, all juniors had to take current events and the Constitution. First semester, you got the Constitution -- you learned about it in Freshmen year, but they focused on it your Junior year. Current Events was taught from Newsweek (back when it was a legit news magazine). The everybody in class got one and the teacher taught from the articles. You got lots of economics from it -- same teacher also did the Financial Literacy course I mentioned before.

I had the class 2001-2002. Hype year. 9/11, Enron, Olympics. Current Events was fascinating that year.

The guy who taught this class always complained about the real estate market and how it was bubble used to save us from the .com collapse. Hilarious he was right (although others argued his points too.)

Rural high school in WV with 410 kids. Amazing they don't each stuff like this everywhere if my school could do it.

I had my mind blown in a college economics class, that pointed out how the general convention of supply and demand is backwards.
And then I read a bunch of Sowell.

I took finance in high school (balancing budgets, taxes, etc.).

In post secondary, I took micro and macro economics as options.

woah, we had a very similar setup with current events and newsweek in my southeastern missouri high school. also had to take a goverment class in senior year which was more broad than just the constitution (which i would have rather taken come to think of it).

the class was considered one of the highlights in our school. it was not an honors class, so everybody had to take it. the guy in charge was the school's athletic trainer, but he was extremely smart. he was one of those guys that had a way of even getting troubled students to take a class serious. he was super strict but even handed, regardless of who broke the rules. his middle daughter was in my class and sat right in front of me. she didn't get any better treatment than the borderline criminal types.

Senior year did not require any history or civics. I took AP us history senior year, and only 1 other person was in the course.

Great class and a great year for it (may you live in interesting times....)

edit

freshman - US history until the great depression or so
sophomore - World History, and a course in financial literacy
junior - current events/constituion
Senior - AP US or Economics (both optional)

that was our setup

I don't remember econ, finance, or personal finance even being offered at my high school. It's a shame that your education never touches on 'real life' things that you need a basic understanding of when it comes to finances. A personal finance class should be a requirement and include things that loans, credit cards, car loans, home loans, taxes, budgeting, etc.

I did take econ, finance, accounting, etc. as part of my business degree.

Price influences supply and demand vastly more than the other way around.

I had economics in HS, and had one class where they taught us some basic finance stuff, like how to budget and how to write a check (back when people still used checks). I took personal finance in school. Most everything I learned though was just reading a personal finance book or two.

No economics or finance courses were offered at either high school I attended.

I took micro and macro economics in university as electives. I dont think they helped me in any way.

Personal finance, like how to manage your money and save up for a house, retirement, etc. should be mandatory in every high school. Literally every person needs to know those things. It makes no sense that thats not taught, but we all have to learn what an asymptote is and how to graph weird equations.
