By the end Rose was basically the underdog. She had moments of terror thanks to Danny and Abra. There was no doubt as to whether Danny would beat her especially when he revealed his trump card to the audience before the battle.
Even without that Abra should have been able to solo Rose.
Maybe they failed to explain Rose's abilities and why she is scarier than the others.

Not sure if the book does better.

Well she did consume all those jars of steam before the battle and she had a huge powerup. Before that she was no match for Abras raw power. Now she at least had a fighting chance.

I also noticed how she didnt count on Danny being a tactical genius. Neither did the Overlook.

The villains, the True Knot, are essentially vampires. They travel around the country looking for people with the Shine. They'll then torture them to extract a psychic essence/life force they call steam which they then eat to retain their immorality. Most of the Knot have the Shine themselves, so they have various superpowers.

Abra is a young girl with a massively powerful Shine. She unknowingly starts reaching out to Danny, so they end up teaming up when the Knot gets wind of Abra.
