The only thing that's getting changed are the dimensions of the CGI character -- the writing, voice acting, videography, etc. aren't being changed. It's one insignificant aspect of the film. And if you're the kind of person who can't appreciate schlock or fun, then you probably don't have a foot to stand on when it comes to discussing art and you're taking yourself way too seriously. ex. super mario bros. movie was a fun, post apocalyptic film that wasn't very accurate to its source material. garbage pail kids was unintentionally funny and had some awesome costuming and special effects.
