I would counter this question with my own - why do you consider it garbage?

It has a ton of features (bosses, dungeons and dungeoneering skill, player-owned houses, ports and farms, unique quests) that virtually no other MMORPG has. And a lot of achievements to complete.

I'm really excited for Archeology, since I love skilling, it sounds like a good AFKing skill and it sounds unique compared to what's already there. I am far less thrilled about them raising the Farming and Herblore levels up to 120 >_> gonna make them harder to max.

One thing I kinda hate they dropped is the unique weapon effects for each class of weapon. I don't know if they're rolling that into something else or just moving away from it altogether but I thought that would have made combat more exciting.

It can be clunky in places for sure, but overall I enjoy the experience still. Guess it doesn't hurt that my account is so old, I just have a connection with it that I can't establish with modern MMOs.

Well I am stupid and for some reason I thought those had a 120 "hard" max (while the others had a 120 "soft" max, with 99 still being the "hard").

You're not wrong, but for the max cape and guild, you just need 99 all, not 99 and 120 for those that actually go that far

No micro transactions and no EoC :)

The microtransactions aren't even that bad. Some of them do confer a continuing bonus but otherwise 90% of them are cosmetic and it's comparable to what you'd see in any other modern game.

EOC is optional, though it does give you a slight DPS advantage if you're using that over Legacy mode (you can play on Legacy servers though).

I am nostalgic for the original Runescape. I didn't play much of RS2 so I don't have this attachment to it I guess. Plus there are just so many QOL updates in RS I don't want to live without, simple things like the toolbelt.
