I am a pretty fast manga reader. I read Stone Ocean (158 chapters) in about two weeks.

if it took you two weeks to read 158 chapters, and one piece has over.. 900?

well, it should probably take you about 3 months to get to 900, so probably about 2 1/2 months to get to 900 from where you are now. That's what it sounds like. And then maybe another week to finish or whatever...

I should note that 50 of the Stone Ocean chapters were read in a single sitting.

even if that doesn't include the artwork pages, it's not like the pages are full text like a book.

the average manga has 20 pages per chapter for weekly series and 40 pages for monthly series.

One piece has gotten to a point where it alienates possible new fans because its so long. I feel like it is going to need to finish soon.

The story is actually winding down (or winding up, depending on how you look at it). Oda says he wants to end it in 5 years. I'd say 8-10 is more likely lol

How far behind is the Anime?

It takes me 5min to read a chapter. There are like 900 chapters of One piece so 4500 min which is about 75 hours.

Oda releases something like 30-35 chapters a year. The current arc likely has another 50 chapters or more before it is done. Then I can see the series ending in another couple arcs depending on how things go down, but I can't imagine those final arcs being less than 100 chapters each. Plus, you know, random adventures along the way.

The anime is pretty much exactly a year behind the manga in terms of release. Plus they don't want to catch up in the manga so they pretty much do a one chapter, one episode kind of deal. The episodes have been only 11 - 15 minutes long for a while with a lot longer "last time on One Piece..." and extended intro/outro sections to fill out the timeslot.

Sometimes they only adapt half a chapter lol
