I'm also pretty anti-hyped on this. Just feels like Kojima's trying super hard to be a Lynchian game dev but we've seen no shadow of any real substance to back it up. The "gameplay" all just seems like an incoherent pile of "wouldn't this be cool" mechanics that Kojima probably pulled from his dreams or something. I want to believe it'll be good, but I'm just not seeing any indication that Unchained Kojima is the auteur he acts like he is.

hot take:

Kojima has always been like that and yet his output is still very enjoyable and entertaining despite being less deep than it tries to pass itself off as, so this isn't a bad thing. MGS contains groundbreaking shit but also way more tryhard elements that still manage to be cool, and that's okay!

I agree and I kinda like it because it's the opposite of how MGSV was promoted. It seems like there's a lot more to this game than what is being shown, which is how his best stuff always is. It's like the Nier Automata trailer that was just the opera singer fight. It shows what you will basically do, but it doesn't explain the deeper stuff.

I don't pay much attention to game news and I try not to get my hopes up about much of anything really. I haven't heard too much about this game aside from that I know it's a thing and I might have absorbed one or two of the memes passively just from browsing reddit.

I've been totally uninterested in it aside from following the Kojimaness news about it since it was revealed.

I get more confused by every trailer

One thing people keep saying is that they want to see what the gameplay "really is", like there must be some involved system regulating everything. Like a delivery system that dictates what you do or where you go and the challenges you'll encounter or something, like it's a finely tuned JRPG combat system.

But I don't think an involved system is even necessary. I could just be a guy delivering boxes and peeing in the grass and that could be a really cool experience

I dunno what the fuck to make of the babies though.

it being partially military HAD to have been one of them. I remember my casual friends back in the day, who were NOT into Anime and shit like that, were into this game. it undoubtedly moved some copies

but I digress, what I'm tryin to say is sometimes some restraint and some boundaries are necessary, it hits your target all the more precise. They're indeed letting him do whatever and thats not always a good thing

but I do understand we SHOULD wait til the game is actually out, however, as far as hype goes, I don't have any

Yeah I can agree with this too. I'm just...really curious to see what happens when he can do that! Especially since his two most recent projects were clearly hurt by too many restrictions (MGSV and PT) and I'm now extra interested in the other extreme
