In a disproportionally massive amount of amateur art and fanart circulating the Internet, the artists really emphasize the blush of their characters. Cheeks and noses are always super red. And in some cases, they even use skin blush in place of shadows or lighting.

I dont know why but every time I see this I get a little bit irrationally upset. >_>

TC has a lot of free time on his hands. More than I do (if that's even possible).

How do I avoid this mistake. I know what you're on about with the nose but I didn't know there was a cheek equivalent.
I have a picture I'm drawing and while it's meant to look a little off it might be going a little too far into weird doll thing territory when it's meant to be human. I put the palest shade of red-pink on the upper cheeks.

Oh I dunno. I wouldnt take my ramblings too seriously. I think its just a stylistic thing.

I personally prefer flat skin tones. Noticeable blush always looks weird to me unless the character is supposed to be cold, sunburned, or Santa Claus. >_>

Yeah that makes sense. I'm not very good at this, I'm just jumping at the chance to get some ideas about this sorta thing. I've got the weirdly pale one and the other one's just flat generic skin shade with a few darker patches for shadows and another darker shade for spots that the light doesn't even nearly reach, no cheek or nose coloring on that one since it's a dude though.

I think I've got a similar problem with lips based on this, I can't bring myself to draw the entire shape of a lip and full color it, I'm trying to find some compromise where I just draw a really basic cartoony mouth and maybe run a pale shade of lip color to fade into the top and bottom.

I know exactly what you mean, if I knew the artist's names, I'd list examples, lol
