I guess this doesn't exist

https://www.amazon.com/HORI-D-Pad-Controller-Zelda-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01AJRN4CE

I should probably get one of those imo

I get why people don't care for the separate buttons on the joycon, but I've also seen people don't like the pro controller's d-pad. Why is that?

It's fine, IMO.

The position isn't perfect on the Pro Controller, but otherwise it works great.

I've seen so many people bitch about the d-pad buttons and am baffled that they have never even looked to see if a d pad joycon exists.

There was literally an article on N4G titled "the D Pad is why you should dump your Switch for a Lite," and the very first comment was a picture of the D-Pad joy-con. The author eventually did an update that basically stated "I didn't know there were D pad joy-cons"

We'll see in a week when the sticks drift and you have to send in your whole Switch just to fix them.

I think it's fair to criticize the hardware a system comes with. Sure, alternatives are out there, but people would like it better if they didn't have to buy additional stuff

To be fair, at least you CAN buy "additional stuff" for the OG Switch.

With the Lite, you're stuck with what you start with.

Is a d-pad really a massive deal in 2019? I can't really think that I use it for outside of menu navigation and quick clicks to switch items. I don't need a lot of fine control out of a d-pad anymore.

Switch Pro dpad is mushy and gives false inputs, it's not like the 3ds or Xbone one

I get this is an instance of just this specific person being dumb, but he's advocating for buying an entire new system. That's way more than buying "additional stuff".

I don't think less of people that bitch about the joycon not having a d pad, it's a fair criticism that I agree with actually (while also understanding why Nintendo did it).

I'm just saying it baffles me that most of the people I meet who complain about this haven't even looked for an alternative.

The Switch has a lot of 2D platformers and indie games, where a lot of people prefer using a D-pad. Me, I play that stuff with the analog stick anyways.

This seems like a good solution IMO.

It's a Officially Licensed Nintendo Approved 3rd Party Wireless GameCube controller.

Honestly, the Joy Con itself is one of the worst controllers ever due to the pointless features each one has and the bloated price due to it.

Does every Joycon really need an NFC reader? Has HD Rumble been used effectively in anything other than 1 2 Switch?

How many games honestly feature multiplayer only using single joycons? Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Party? And do people honestly enjoy playing Mario Kart with just a single joycon?

It was such a dumb move to have *every* joycon be the same IMO.

I can live without Rumble, saves on battery anyways.

I prefer AA batteries for the long term. I have plenty of Sanyo Eneloops that I can quickly recharge and throw in a new set when power gets low.

Takes me less then 60 seconds to swap batteries.

Joycons & Pro Controllers lack analog buttons as well, so not much you can do about that.

Blame Nintendo for not putting them in there.

^ So I got these works of work a lil' while ago and I learned something about the Joy-Con's D-Pad. So it turns out it's not as simple as slapping a D-Pad over the 4 quadrants and calling it a day, the Joy-Con buttons do not like being pressed in different directions at the same time. Like, I could press Down and Right at the same time, but if I try to transition that to a Right Up, it refuses to acknowledge the command.

I had to start lifting my thumb off the D-Pad completely, more or less resetting my position before I move somewhere else, and it really sucks. Why does it suck? Because the Switch Pro Controller doesn't have that problem at all.

So when the Switch Lite makes it's D-Pad, it's going to be better than the D-Pads people make on Joy-Cons because there's some under-the-hood shit Nintendo does to make the D-Pad function the way they're supposed to.

$190 for Joy-Cons are you kidding me

I don't think the officially licensed Hori D Pad Joycons have that issue...

Weeell, it was actually $200. https://www.etsy.com/listing/598479644/custom-snes-super-nintendo-themed

I know full well how stupid it sounds when said out loud, but at the end of the day; I wanted it, only they made it, and I was able to afford it (by eating ramen for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a couple weeks). To be honest though, if I knew this is how the D-Pad would've worked, I would've got the model without it: https://www.etsy.com/listing/520997484/custom-snes-super-nintendo-themed

Meh I like joycon dpad buttons for 2D platformers tbh. I would never play a fighting game that uses a dpad on the switch though.
