Board 8 > Anybody play the PS1 and PSP Persona 1 and 2?

which one would yall recommend?

The localization of the ps1 version of persona 1 is kind of notorious and cut the alternate path through the game (the snow queen quest). The psp version has a translation closer to the original, as well as new cutscenes and music more in the vein of the nu persona games (so this aspect can be hit or miss, particularly since the new battle music is a pretty short loop). it also cuts the first person town map for one like most of the other smt games, and moves faster/has shorter loading times so it's possibly more palatable in that regard.

note that there are 2 halves of persona 2 so the two games you're talking about are separate games. Innocent sin is part 1, and eternal punishment is part 2. Atlus only brought out ep originally since it's the conclusion, and only brought out Innocent sin PSP since it was too late in the life for eternal punishment to be marketable.

Just skip the first game, it's a waste of time. Well, I guess you'll miss a cool reference or two, but it's no big deal. The second one is pretty good, though. I played the PSP version of IS and the PS1 version of EP.

Its still something I would like to experience before jumping into later sequels and then REALLY not being able to go back, ya know. I know they're all barely connected

"Barely connected" is saying too much for P3, you miss two EXTREMELY tiny nods but that's it. By the time you hit P4 and P5, the first two games might as well have not existed.
