I was looking to buy an iMac for media purposes. Does it matter what year I get? Like a 2013 iMac?

Audio and video production

You'd be honestly better building a PC and making a hackintosh if you must stick with apple.
Video production might take a hit since it's got a weak video card even for the time

I'm not sure about iMacs. Do you have one you cna link me to and I can check it out?

What other software are you planning on using. Because if it works on Windows it might be easier to juist get a cheap desktop. Like literally one for about $600 would blow imacs out of the water

Apparently is it possible but macs are tricky to get working when you swap out hardware.
You're mentioning macOS only software there. The 780 is old but the biggest issue is only 8gb of ram and no ssd

Nah. They can be on windows too

And whats the latest year I should get in 2019? And how many gb of ram should I aim for?

Basically if you could, lay out the necessary components the iMac should have lol

iMac? I'm not really sure but for video editing any processor with at least 8 cores, a gpu that's a nvidia 1070 or higher and 16gb of ram and some ssd, with a larger hdd for data storage

You're gonna spend a lot more on an iMac.
http://www.logicalincrements.com/articles/videoediting

Even that for 500 would get you more performance to the mac you posted.

Bad hardware for the price, unless you're using mac specific software it's pointless. Also it's not upgradable besides the RAM.

From my experience, iMacs have an amazing shelf life. People in studio settings prefer iMacs for two reasons.

1. All-in-One computers are easier to set up and move around, and require less cable management.
2. macOS generally has more finely-tuned and optimized ports of audio and video workstation software compared to Windows.

The software you listed (FL Studio, Adobe CS, etc.) runs just as fine on Windows (FL Studio actually performing better on Windows, as their macOS port is relatively new), so I'd recommend you either build a custom PC.

For a little over $500, if you know your stuff, you can build a decent custom PC that outperforms an iMac. If you're insistent on getting an iMac, save up and get a more recent one.

I really love windows too. Thats what my laptop was. But I just thought iMacs were more powerful and more useful when creating videos, audio pictures and etc

Try to get the most recent iMac you can that's within your budget. Bear in mind that if you're just starting out, it doesn't matter what computer you have, mastering certain software will have the same learning curve. Like I said, Macs make more sense in a studio context.

If you're insistent on getting a Mac, you might want to learn about the Hackintosh scene. For far less than the cost of a Mac, you could build a custom PC that runs MacOS, which would be considerably more powerful than an actual Mac.

If you're looking for a career in a creative job like music/audio/TV/movie editing or graphic design then yes Macs and Mac software are industry standard and expected. But if it's just a hobby, you'll save a lot of money just making a PC equivalent in power.

The software they mentioned are cross-platform, like FL Studio and Adobe CS6.

There's a lot of good Mac software out there, but for pure processing power you're going to get a lot better performance per cost out of a Windows machine (especially considering the software you're referring to is supported on Windows).

A lot of the iMacs are more powerful sentiment is just marketing.

My iMac from 2011 still works today.

That said, iMacs from anytime before 2018 are pretty outdated today so I wouldn't go for them, especially a 2013 one.

I use a iMac from 2011 while volunteering for an organization. I generally did have problems with it, though on occasion, I'll try to do something in Gimp but the computer won't let me.
